E-Jet, a R1,4 million National Yearling Sales graduate bred by Scott Bros, won the Gr 2 Colorado King Stakes on Saturday at Turffontein by one and quarter lengths, from another son of Jet Master, the St John Gray-trained Glorious Jet and Straw Market with KZN-bred Shogunnar (by Solskjaer) finishing fourth, just two and a half lengths off.
Trained by Sean Tarry, E-Jet was ridden by Anton Marcus and has now achieved four wins and eight places from 14 starts. E-Jet is by KZN-bred champion sire Jet Master out of Esmaltina(ARG) by Equalize(USA) and descends from the dam-line of sire Elusive Fort, Empress Club, Escolita Fitz, Emerald Beauty and Eventuail. Congratulations to his owner Mr M B Javett.
Scott Bros also had a second place by half a length in the Derby Trial Listed at Turffontein with Wild One, a son of Mogok out of Endangered Species by Sapieha. Trained by Jeff Freedman and ridden by Anton Marcus, Wild One is a R95 000 sale graduate off the 2011 KZN Yearling Sale and has a full-brother being offered at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale – Lot 388 named Save The Rhino. Wild One has had five starts, two wins and two places – including placing third in the Guineas Trial behind Love Struck. Wild One is also a half-brother to seven time winner Extinct (by Spaceship), who also placed third in the Gr 1 Mercury Sprint.
Spectrum’s daughter Tuscan Lass took home the Oaks Trial Listed at Turffontein in very soft going by one and half lengths from Neon Tiger (bred by Anna Riddle). Out of a Red Ransom mare, Tuscan Lass has now won her last two starts and placed five times from nine starts.
KZN-bred Kinematic Countess, bred by Pierre Du Toit, won the Gr 3 Sycamore Sprint by two lengths from She’s A Stunner (by Toreador), Solarium (by Var) and Fanzene (by National Emblem). Now a six-time winner, Kinematic Countess has also placed 14 times including the Gr 3 Magnolia Handicap and the recent Bauhinia Handicap Listed. Congratulations to Pierre Du Toit who has had a number of winners recently and to owner/trainer Roy Magner.
At Clairwood on Sunday Roy Moodley’s Royalsecuritybaby(AUS) took home the Gr 3 Strelitzia Stakes for year old fillies over 1100m, carrying 56kgs. The talented Princess Julietta (by King Of Kings and bred by Linington & Sons) ran second by a nose carrying 58kgs, while Cayenne (by Lion Tamer and bred by Yellow Star Stud) finished third, and Ravishing Gem (by Ravishing – bred by RC Muir Thoroughbreds) finished fourth, three lengths off the leaders.
This is the second Black Type filly for sire Lion Tamer, who relocated to Yellow Star Stud in January – the other filly being Lady De Winter. Princess Julietta has had four starts, a win and two places, and she is owned by Brian Burnard.
Princess Julietta is yet another graduate success story from the 2012 KZN Yearling Sale, selling for R100 000, she qualifies to race as a KZN-bred on the annual KZN Breeders Race Day, which will see the running of the Million Mile as well as seven other races for a stake of R200 000, exclusively for KZN-breds – as well as the R1-million race exclusively for graduates of the 2012 KZN Yearling Sale to be run a week later on Vodacom Durban July day.
Toreador, who recently arrived at Bush Hill Stud from the Cape, has settled very nicely into his new home in the Midlands. The most successful son of Danehill to stand in South Africa, he had three of his progeny place in three Stakes races over the weekend – at Turffontein, Clairwood and Fairview.
Another Idea ran second in the East Cape Nursery Listed at Fairview over 1200m, from Seattle Storm by a quarter of a length in slightly soft going from a ninth draw. Brasillia, bred by the Tawny Syndicate and trained by Sean Tarry, placed in the Godolphin Barb Stakes Gr 3 over the weekend at Clairwood, ridden by Sean Cormack. Another daughter of Toreador trained by Sean Tarry, She’s A Stunner ran second in the Gr 3 Sycamore Sprint at Turffontein from Kinematic Countess in very soft going.
Toreador has produced the likes of Link Man, Las Ramblas, Jackadore, Straight Forward and Deliver The Power and we look forward to his influence in the future for KZN Breeding. He stands alongside the very good-looking Gr 1 winner Irish Flame, one of South Africa’s leading sires – Kahal, King’s Chapel and Curved Ball at Bush Hill Stud.
A big congratulations once more to all the connections of these talented horses!
