The Gold Circle KZN Racing Awards takes place tonight in Durban with a number of KZN-bred and associated horses amongst the nominations.

One of the Champion Two Year Old Female nominees is King Of King’s daughter King’s Temptress. The filly made an unforgettable debut in April at Turffontein, winning the Gr 2 SA Nursery by two lengths at incredible odds of 150/1. She defeated top fillies Franny and Ilha Da Rock(AUS) in the process.

King’s Temptress, a R70 000 yearling out of Model Mam’selle by Model Man, has since placed fourth in two Gr 1 races, the first being the Golden Slipper on Vodacom Durban July day where she defeated All Is Secret and Ilha De Rock(AUS) once more, the second race being the Thekweni Stakes, from just four starts. Trained by Kumaran Naidoo , this filly has an exciting three year old career ahead of her. Bred by Waterford Stud, King’s Temptress is owned by Mr MB Govender.

Scott Bros’ Eton Square is a nominee for the Champion Three Year Old Male award. The son of Miesque’s Approval out of Monroe by Model Man has won twice and placed from all five of his starts at three different racing venues.

As a result of this win, Eton Square was a late supplementary entry for the Gr 1 Vodacom Durban July for his fifth start – and ran a credible fourth to Pomodoro. Another young horse with a very exciting career ahead of him, he is owned by Bold Moves 860 (PTY) Ltd (Nom: Mr E Foster) & Mr ODT Visser.

Impeccably bred, Eton Square’s fourth dam is Soho Secret, the dam of London News. This extraordinary dam-line includes the likes of Underground Lady, Lady Brompton, King’s Gambit, Secret Pact, Promisefrommyheart, Covenant, American Badger and Super Wood, to name but a few.

Dr Ian Heyns’ Seal, born and raised at Bush Hill Stud, is a nominee for two categories, Champion Older Horse – Male and Champion Stayer.

Another horse trained by Gavin Van Zyl, Seal has had six wins and nine places (four places in Stakes races), including the Gr 2 Gold Vase on this years Vodacom Durban July Day. Less than a month later, he went onto run fourth behind In Writing(ARG) in the Gr 1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup by just two lengths. His other wins include the 2011 Gr 1 SA Derby and the Wolf Power 1600 Listed.

Seal’s dam-line includes J&B Met winner Polo Classic, Wild West, Wild Ash and Durban July winner Beau Art.
