The final fields for three Grade 1 events on 26 May at Scottsville, the Allan Robertson Championship, Tsogo Sun Medallion, S.A. Fillies Sprint and Golden Horse Casino Sprint with a strong representation of horses either KZN-bred or by KZN resident stallions. King Of Kings and Kahal are strongly represented.

King Of Kings has an exciting day with two talented 2-year olds entered on the day. King’s Temptress will be contesting her second start in the Gr 1 Allan Robertson. This exciting filly blew everyone away by defeating some top two year olds in her debut start (she went off at odds of 150-1) which also happened to be the Grade 2 S.A. Fillies Nursery. All eyes are certain to be on this filly and she is now being trained by Kom Naidoo.

Reign As Kings, a son of King Of Kings and raised at Bush Hill Stud, is the other entered into the Grade 1 Tsogo Sun Medallion. Trained by Mike de Kock, he has every chance and has already proven his talent. He ran second in his debut by a nose to My Jelly Bean, and then went on to win his second two starts – the Sentinel Stakes by 1.5 lengths in which he defeated My Jelly Bean.

Rebel Queen, impeccably bred out of the mare Cousin Linda by Kahal, is a full-sister to R2.4 million yearling Uncle Tommy. Rebel Queen has had two starts and won her last start in May by 5.25 lengths.

Backworth Stud have two of their progeny running on the day, with their Grade 1 winning filly Chocolicious contesting the S.A. Fillies Sprint, and Go Again in the Tsogo Sun Medallion.

Chocolicious won the Grade 1 Allan Robertson previously. By Kahal, she recently took home first place at Greyville amongst strong company. Prior to this, she had been exported to Dubai where she was fourth in the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial, third in the UAE 1000 Guineas and second in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

He beat the hot favourite, Markus Jooste’s talented Trippi colt, Skywalk Luke, by a length. He is a full-brother to First Again, winner of the Grade 2 Ipi Tombe Challenge in 2006. He ran second in his first start, and finished five lengths off Ottimo in his last start, the Grade 2 Umkhomazi Stakes.

Wishful Eye, bred by Middlefield Stud, won her last start by half a length – the In Full Flight Listed Handicap. She is a three time winner from 11 starts and she has placed twice.

Love Struck, owned by Alesh Naidoo, is by Kahal and won his debut in February this year, after that he ran a third to Reign As Kings.

The grey gelding Shades Of Indigo (Indigo Magic – Palace Bride by Palace Music) will be representing the KZN-breds in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint, over 1200m for R600 000. He has achieved 7 wins in total and he has placed 13 times. He placed second by a length behind Depardieu in March. His achievements include the Grade 2 Betting World Merchants over 1200m. He was bred by Midlands Equine and sold for R160 000 as a yearling. He is a half-brother to Silver Mist who went on to win in Dubai, whilst another sibling sold at the 2012 Emperor’s Palace National Yearling Sale for R1, 250 000.

A very exciting day’s racing is anticipated!
