The Cape Thoroughbred Sales Johannesburg Read To Run Sale took place on Friday and saw 138 Lots sold for an average of R178 841 each, from 146 horses catalogued.

Topping the list of top-priced KZN-breds was a magnificent and well related colt by Kahal, consigned by Summerhill Stud and sold to Adriaan Van Vuuren for R800 000. Lot 94 named Ebony Knight is out of Haifaa by Doyoun, in turn out of a Lypard/Bustino mare.

Haifaa has produced seve n foals and six winners, two of them Bold Black Type.

A beautiful bay colt, Ebony Knight is a half-brother to Gr3 winning Extra Zero, as well as Stakes winning Negev. This is the immediate family of successful sires’ Maroof and Desert King.

The top-priced KZN-bred filly was another Summerhill-bred daughter of Visionaire, out of the beautifully-bred mare Spring Garland by Rambo Dancer. A chestnut named Three Trees and sold as Lot 138, she is a half-sister to Gr2 placed Highly Decorated.

Her dam Spring Garland is a half-sister to Imbongi and Mahubo who has raced successfully overseas. This is the first crop of Visionaire and his progeny are eagerly anticipated on the South African racetracks. Three Trees sold for R550 000 to Mayfair Speculators.

Summerhill Stud currently lead the National Log by Stakes Earned, leading by almost R2-million, whilst Kahal (who sadly passed away recently) still leads the National Sires Log by Stakes earned.

Congratulations to the vendors and buyers.
