Badger Lake Wins Durbanville Cup Listed

Badger Lake, by Wood-Moore Manor Stud’s resident sire Badger’s Drift, won the Durbanville Cup Listed Handicap over 3200m at Kenilworth, beating a strong field of horses that included Gr 1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup winner In Writing(ARG).

Badger Lake, out of the mare Swan Star by Mistral Dancer(CAN), won the marathon race by half a length.

The six year old gelding is trained by Joey Ramsden and ridden by Karis Teetan. It was an achievement for Joey Ramsden, who trained the first three horses past the post.

The field Badger Lake left behind included the likes of Jeppe’s Reef, Grey Cossack and In Writing(ARG). Owned by Messrs R J Bloomberg and M J Jooste, it is Badger Lake’s sixth win and he has placed three times.

Badger’s Drift is the sire of 122 progeny to race and 65 winners (53.0%) including Group Winners Ivory Trail (Gr 1), Hospitality (Gr 3), Lord Badger, Like Paradise and Golden Bow. Progeny that have placed in Group races include Catchadrift, Act Of Supremeacy and Peonie Paradise.
