The Paul Matchett-trained 5-year-old mare, Raise The Bar (Goldkeeper – Moving On Up), scored a thrilling victory in the Woodland Sprint on sand at the Vaal Thursday.

She got up in the dying strides to win on the line from Summer Speedsters winner, Solarium (Var – Red Remedy); going one better in this R125,000 event than a year ago, where she finished a closing second to eventual Banyana Handicap (Listed) winner, Sapphire Ring (Spectrum – Star Sapphire).

Now approaching the twilight of her career, Raise The Bar has been a super performer for her R230,000 purchase price from the 2009 KZN Yearling Sale. Her career record now stands at 8 wins and 14 places from 32 starts, with earnings in excess of R800,000.

Our congratulations go to owner Mr John Koumides as well as to trainer Paul Matchett and his team.
