KZN produced a double at Greyville on Friday night for Avontuur sire Oratorio. Bush Hill’s handsome Grande Maestro got a well deserved win after placing six times from eight of his starts. Bred by Bush Hill Stud and trained by Darryl Moore, Grande Maestro is out of Felix The Cat (Black Minnaloushe) and owned by Late Mr R Pennells & Mrs E M Pennells.

He won over 1400m under Craig Zackey and is the first foal of his twice 2nd placed Gr1 dam. She is a half-sister to ML Jet, out of the imported mare Subyan Dreams by Spectrum.

The other to follow was Piemonte Stud’s Di Me for trainer Ivan Van Wyk and owners Mr Lance & Mrs Daryl Duncan, he won speedily over 1200m. Piemonte Stud have had good success with Oratorio, producing the likes of multiple Stakes filly Carlita.

Di Me is out of Irish Heroine by Selkirk, a half-brother to Lee’s Star. The third dam is Royal Heroine, crowned Champion Turf Filly in USA 1984 with 10 wins in Britain & France, including the Hollywood Derby Gr1, Breeders Cup Mile Gr1, Matriarch Stakes Gr1.

Di Me won impressively on race debut at Scottsville previously.
