Baracah, a R190 000 graduate of the 2010 Emperor's Palace National Yearling Sale, is a half-brother to Goat by leading National Two-Year Old sire, King Of Kings. He has had 10 starts and a win and two places, and ran just four lengths off Potala Palace in the Premiers Champion Stakes Grade 1. Winter Mischief, bred by Scott Bros, was a R600 000 yearling, also a graduate of the 2010 National Yearling Sale. He has had 7 starts, won 1 and placed in every other.

Seal has been supplemented for this race. A Bush Hill bred by Silvano, he won the Wolf Power 1600 from Galanthus by three quarters of a length, and shouldering more weight. He ran just two lengths off the winner in his last start to place carrying a hefty 64kgs, the heaviest in the field, the winner shouldering just 58kgs.
After her sensational win in the Grade 1 Sansui Summer Cup, Dancewiththedevil ran just 3.5 lengths of Kavanagh in the Grade 2 Hawaii Stakes. Pierre Jourdan ran a fourth in the same race, just two lengths off Kavanagh, and placed third in his previous start - just 1.25 lengths off Smanjemanje in the London News Grade 3. Spring-Valley bred Buy And Sell ran a second in the Pinnacle Plate. This son of National Emblem has previously won the Daily News 2000 Grade 1, as well as the Champions Cup Grade 1.

Cash Lord, a son of Scott Bros' Overlord, has had two wins and placed 7 times from just 11 starts. Dawn Light is also a son of another Scott Bros stallion making his mark, Miesque's Approval. He has had 11 starts, a win and three places. Extra Zero, a Summerhill-bred daughter of Way West and a R240 000 purchase at the 2010 Ready-To-Run Sale, was also the winner last year of the KZN Breeders Awards Outstanding Two Year Old Filly. She has had two wins and six places, running two lengths off to another KZN-bred Variometer on the 13 March 2012 in the Bauhinia Listed. Legal Action, a son of the sadly deceased Second Empire and owned by Midlands Thoroughbreds, won the recent Var Gold Rush Sprint, beating the next horse mentioned Midnight Serenade by just over a length. In total Legal Action has had three wins and four places. Midnight Serenade, yet another KZN Breeders Award winner for Outstanding Two Year Old Colt, was bred by Clifton Stud and is a son of Malhub. He won his first two starts, including the Storm Bird Stakes Listed, and has placed seven times, most of them being second - including an unlucky quarter of length in the Grade 2 SA Nursery to Delago Deluxe.

Filly Bushwacker, a daughter of Bezrin, ran a length off Las Ramblas in her last start at then end of February. She has had 4 wins and 9 places to date. Las Ramblas, yet another KZN Breeders Award winner for Outstanding Three Year Old Filly, won her last start over 2000m. She is a consistent filly and has had four wins and 11 places, including second to champion filly Igugu in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Classic. Backworth-bred Varlet, a R190 000 yearling purchase from the 2009 National Yearling Sale, is a three-time winner, winning on debut and finding form again, she has won her last two starts out and placed five times.
