Congratulations to the breeders who have had horses nominated in the Outstanding Sprinter Female and Male categories. The fillies are Apple Princess, Mannequin, Onehundredacrewood with the colts following below ...
Apple Princess
A 5 year old mare by Announce out of Apple Fair by Fine Edge, bred by Graystone Stud.
She is a 7-time winner of R577,675 and has placed 15 times including a third in the Camellia Stakes Grade 2, and the Magnolia Handicap Grade 3. She is a half-sister to 4 winners and includes the family of Golden Apple, Quest For Gold and Golden Chariot as well as Apple-A-Day.
Mannequin
A 4 year old filly by Kahal out of Model K by Model Man, bred by Summerhill Stud who have 2 nominees in this category. This filly was an R80 000 purchase from the 2008 Emperor's Palace Ready-To-Run Sale. She is a half-sister to 2 winners. Mannequin has now had 9 wins and has earned R762,275 including the Banyana Handicap (Listed) and she has placed 15 times including a second in the Banyana Handicap (Listed) and the Bauhinia Handicap (Listed).
This is the family of 7-time winner Fast Break, Supreme Sovereign and Idol Worship, to name but a few.
Her half-sister Tinchy Stryder by Mullins Bay recently sold for R130 000 at the 2011 Emperor's Palace Ready-To-Run Sale.
Onehundredacrewood
A 4 year old filly by Malhub out of Roman Dream by Jallad, bred by Summerhill Stud. Sold for R85 000 at the Emperor's Palace 2008 Ready-To-Run Sale she had 5 wins and earned R434,385 including the Bauhinia Handicap (Listed) and placed 10 times including a third in the Swallow Stakes (Listed) and the Gardenia Handicap (Listed). Her two younger half-siblings - both by Kahal - the colt Emperor Augustus sold for R800 000 at the 2009 Emperor's Palace Ready-To-Run Sale and the other, a filly called Dea Dia sold for R400 000 at the 2010 Emperor's Palace Ready-To-Run Sale, has already placed twice from 3 starts.
This is the family of At The Savoy, Mason Dixon, Gang Related, and of course sprint-producing stallions Harry Hotspur and Rotterdam.
In the Outstanding Sprinter Males we have Arabian Mist, Midnight Serenade and Silver Age, the latter two being nominated for Outstanding Two Year-Old Colt as well.
Arabian Mist
A 6 year old entire by Muhtafal out of Valley Mist by Mount Hagen, bred by Summerhill Stud. A R300 000 yearling purchase at the 2006 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale and a half-brother to 5 winners, including 15 time-winner Nhlavini who was voted 2001 Equus Champion Older Male Sprinter, Equus Champion Older Male Sprinter in 2005 and again in 2006.
Arabian Mist has had 8 wins and earned R1,046,755 to date including Defy Merchants Grade 2, Hertz Merchants Grade 2 and he has placed 12 times including a second in the Hawaii Stakes Grade 2.
Midnight Serenade
A 2 year old colt by Malhub out of Sapphire Serenade by Harry Hotspur, bred by Clifton Stud.
Midnight Serenade has had 2 wins and earned R298,125 including the Storm Bird Stakes (Listed) and he has placed 3 times including a second in the S A Nursery Grade 2, a third in the Sun Maverick Medallion Grade 1, Protea Stakes Grade 3, from all his starts. He is a half-brother to 4 other winners. Family of current 4-time winner Smanjemanje and Star Sapphire. Midnight Serenade has also been nominated for Outstanding 2 Year-Old Colt.
Silver Age
A 2 year old colt by Spring Valley Stud resident stallion Requiem out of Russian Belle by Krusenstern, bred by B & Mrs Le Roux. Silver Age has had 2 wins to date and earned R166,450. His wins include the Umkhomazi Stakes Grade 2, and he has placed twice from only 5 starts. This is the family of Hawaiiwan Wahoo, Thunder Creek and Winona. Silver Age has also been nominated for Outstanding 2 Year-Old Colt.
