Animal Kingdom To Begin Work

Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom, owned and bred by Team Valor International and the winner of the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby has been cleared to resume light work, 60 days after he underwent surgery on his left hind leg.

Surgery took place on 30 June to stabilize a hairline fracture of the left hock after dismal permformance by Animal Kingdom in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, part of the American exclusive Triple Crown. To date he has been limited to being hand-walked for just a few minutes each day.

His initial schedule will include exercising on the Aquatred at Fair Hill Equine Therapy Center immediately and will continue into October. Animal Kingdom will start slow work at Fair Hill, and resume galloping in November if all goes well, with the Dubai World Cup in sight in March next year.

Team Valor also own the champion KZN Rathmor-bred mare, Gypsy’s Warning.
