Igugu(AUS) - Summerhill Stud

The Kwazulu-Natal Racing Awards for the 2010/2011 season took place last night at the Durban Country Club.

As expected Summerhill Stud’s Igugu(AUS)the 2011 Vodacom Durban July winner, snapped up KZN Horse-Of-The-Year as well as KZN Champion 3 year old filly.

Igugu(AUS) – whose name aptly translated in Zulu means jewel – is by Galileo out of Zarinia by Intikhab. She has raced over 1 season with a record of 11 starts, 8 wins and 2 places R4 071 875 and has more then justified her R1 million price tag at the 2009 Emperor’s Palace Ready-To-Run sale. Her feature races include wins in the GAUTENG FILLIES GUINEAS (Grade 2) (1600m) the S A FILLIES CLASSIC (Grade 1) (1800m) the S A OAKS (Grade 2) (2450m), WOOLAVINGTON 2000 (Grade 1) (2000m), the VODACOM DURBAN JULY (Grade 1) (2200m) and a second in the AVONTUUR ESTATE CAPE FILLIES GUINEAS (G1) (1600m).

Congratulations must go to KZN Breeders’ Scott Brothers of Highdown Stud on achieving the award for KZN Champion Breeders, thanks to The Apache.

The Apache (by Mogok – Apache Rose by Dolpour) won the KZN Champion 3 year old colt/gelding award. Over 2 seasons his racing record stands at 11 starts, 5 wins, 4 places, R1641250 and includes wins in THE DINGAANS (Grade 2) (1600m), the DAILY NEWS 2000 (GRADE 1) (2000m) and the CHAMPIONS CUP (GRADE 1) (1800m), as well as two placings in the K R A GUINEAS (Grade 2) (1600m) and the VODACOM DURBAN JULY (Grade 1) (2200m). An R80 000 purchase at the 2009 Emperor’s Palace National Two Year Old Sale, he mighted be destined for overseas shores.
