Breed-shaping sire Kingmambo has been euthanized at 26 due to the infirmities of old age, Lane’s End Farm have announced. Kingmambo is the broodmare sire of Scott Bros’ son of Giant’s Causeway, Eightfold Path.
Giant’s Causeway, the sire of Scott Bros’ sire Eightfold Path and the now deceased Await The Dawn from Summerhill Stud, produced the sales topper at Keeneland last night when Take Charge Brandi sold for $6 million. Eightfold Path and Await The Dawn will have their first crop of yearlings on offer in 2016.
Eightfold Path’s impeccable pedigree is coming to the fore as the common denominator of two international Gr1 winners – his fourth dam, a broodmare named Hardiemma, has now produced through her descendants the Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance, and two days ago Johannes Vermeer, the winner of the Gr1 Criterium International in France.
