Scott Bros’ large imposing Gr1 Breeders Cup winner, Miesque’s Approval, is currently a stand out on the National 2YO Sire’s list, achieving an impressive statistic of 57.1% winners to runners (as per nhra.co.za 15 May).
Scott Bros’ young sire Crusade, saw his Galileo half-sister Seventh Heaven out battle Architecture to win the Betfred Mobile Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes. The Aidan O’Brien-trained winner was sent off the 7-4 favourite for the Listed heat but she made hard work of winning in the hands of Ryan Moore.
“Like its more famous brother, the Kentucky Derby, the Oaks is the oldest contested continually contested horse race in the world. First run like the Derby in 1875, the race has gained in popularity over the years and is only marginally shaded by the Derby in terms of popularity. The first crops from Scott Bros’ respective stallions’ Crusade and Eightfold Path were well received at the recent National Yearling Sale, whilst Irish Flame and Await The Dawn sold one individual each for over R100 000.

2016 KZN PREMIER MARE & WEANLING SALE

Summerhill-bred Arch Rival provided his sire AP Arrow with his first Graded Stakes win, taking the Gr2 Gold Bowl over 3200m.
The top priced colt from KZN on the third and final day of the National Yearling Sale came from Clifton Stud when a beautiful Crusade colt sold for R350 000, whilst the top-priced filly of the final day came from Piemonte Stud for R200 000 as Lot 410.
Day 2 of the National Yearling Sale yielded very pleasing results, in particular for Bush Hill Stud who sold the top-priced KZN colt to date with a magnificent son of Kahal out of Plutonium by Muhtafal, for R650 000 whilst Rathmor’s Eightfold Path filly sold for R325 000.
KZN’s top selling colt of the day came from Bush Hill Stud – an immaculately-bred Oratorio colt out of Felix The Cat by Black Minnaloushe, knocked down to Garth Puller for R400 000, whilst St Helier Stud’s breathtaking grey Crusade filly sold for R300 000.
