Another daughter of last season’s national leading freshman sire Visionaire, added to his Graded Stakes winning accolades as a sire with the aptly named Summerhill-bred Heaps Of Fun, winning the Gr2 Wilgebosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas yesterday for her owner Mr Nchakha Moloi
Bush Hill Stud’s son of King Of Kings, King’s Chapel, has had three winners in a little over a week – including Rhumba Magic who did it in a devastating fashion to win by over seven lengths. Of the three winners, two were bred by Scott Bros.
The Michael Holmes Bloodstock Shongweni Horses In Training Sale took place in the sweltering Durban heat at the beautiful grounds of Durban Shongweni Club, and saw a strong turnout of buyers from across the country.
Graeme Hawkins once again did the honours as auctioneer on behalf of Michael Holmes Bloodstock, with buyers from across the country descending on the leading stud farm in South Africa to find another of the likes of No Worries, Tomorrow’s Miss and Flyfirstclass, graduates of this sale in the past recent years.

Summerhill Stud’s exciting stallion Traffic Guard came out of the blocks flying when he broke the ice with his first raced runner at Greyville on Sunday. The Kom Naidoo-trained Sovereign Magic built on her three placed efforts with a courageous performance to win the Maiden Juvenile Plate run over 1000m on the polytrack.
In association with the TBA, Elsenburg Agricultural College and Singayenza, a KZN Grooms training course is being made available to breeders from the 15-17 March, and will take place at the School Of Excellence at Summerhill Stud. The closing date for registration is 29 February 2016.
Backworth-bred Humidor, the Tony Rivalland-trained Miesque’s Approval gelding, officially lowered Grade 1 winner Kildonan’s 1200m Scottsville course record on Sunday with the yard aiming Humidor at the Grade 1 Tsogo Sun Sprint.
Bombs Away, by Horse Chestnut out of Greenhill Farm’s Gr1 winning Kahal mare Spiced Gold, won well on debut for the stable of Mike Bass, bred by Witzenberg Stud and owned by Messrs M W Bass, R A Flanigan, Paul Marks & B Riley.
