Frankel Tops World Rankings Share

Juddmonte Farms’ Frankel has been rated the top horse in the world in 2011 with a rating of 136. Trained by Sir Henry Cecil and named after the late Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, the colt has won five races, including four group I events. His high rating of 136 was achieved when he defeated champion older miler Canford Cliffs in the Qipco Sussex Stakes. Frankel shares the highest rating given with Sea The Stars since the World Thoroughbred Rankings were initiated in 2004.

Four pounds behind is the second-highest rated horse for 2011 is the undefeated mare Black Caviar, the 2010 world champion sprinter who was undefeated during her 5-year-old campaign by winning six group I and two group II races in her native Australia. Trained by P.G. Moody, Black Caviar’s top rating of 132 came in her three-length triumph in the Lexus Newmarket Handicap. The mare is indefeated in 16 starts.

The highest-ranked horse based in the U.S. on the list was Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Drosselmeyer who was joint 14th-highest rated horse at 124, earned in his season-ending victory for WinStar Farm and trainer Bill Mott. He has since retired to stud at Winstar.

South African trainer Pat Shaw's Rocket Man(AUS) achieved 11th on the list with a rating of 125. Both are based in Singapore. Another South African trainer based in Hong Kong is Tony Millard, and his horse Ambitious Dragon achieved number 23 with a rating of 122.

The top South African bred was JJ The Jet Plane, also ranking 23 on the list with a rating of 122. Mike de Kock's Australian born Igugu (who happens to share the same sire, Galileo, as Frankel) raised and grazed by Summerhill Stud, achieved a rank of 99 and a rating of 118. Current KZN Breeders Horse-Of-The-Year Dancewiththedevil was given a rating of 116 based on her wins in the Horse Chestnut and Sansui Summer Cup, both Grade 1 events. This brilliant mare is bred, owned and trained by St John Gray.
