Angels Power and Prince Of Kahal go head to head.

#kznbreds Angel’s Power (Scott Bros) and Prince Of Kahal (Clifton Stud) dead heated in one of the opening features of the Gauteng season, the Gr3 Spring Spree Stakes.

7yo Angel’s Power, who caused an upheaval early in his career when he ran his first race named Corpus Christi, had to have his name changed after receiving several complaints and put to bed the myth that it is bad luck to change a horses name.

The Miesque’s Approval gelding out of Mogok mare Angel Child, who hails from the immediate family of Pocket Power, River Jetez and Harry’s Echoe, has placed 2nd in this race previously, only to dead heat a third time. This time he had S’manga Khumalo on board, trained by the father-son team of Mike and Adam Azzie.

Sold for R100 000 off the National 2YO Sale, Angel’s Power has earned R 766,900 in stakes, for 6 wins and 19 places. He is owned by Dr R J P Maponya & Mr E G Bouwer.

Angel Child is now a resident broodmare of Bush Hill Stud, and her Crusade National Yearling Sales graduate sold to Mike Azzie for R100 000.

Prince Of Kahal, the last son of one of Clifton Stud’s former leading mares, deadheated at the finish for Hong Kong owner Mr Robert Chung and trainer Roy Magner.

A half-brother to the Mike Bass trained Fort Vogue, who won a Gr2 and died shortly after arriving in Dubai unexpectedly, is also a half-brother to Gr3 winner, Whatalady. Vogue’s dam is the brilliant Thousand Nights, the dam of several champions including sire Warm White Night, Prince Asad, Highland Night and Night Watch.

Prince Of Kahal sold for R120 000 off the KZN Yearling Sale, and has earned R 855,038 in stakes for 7 wins and 9 places.

Its a terrific start for #kznbreds, who produced over 80 Black Type results nationally last season.

Congratulations to the breeders and connections concerned.
