Bush Hill sprinting sire New Predator (AUS) has his first yearlings which will be heading for sales next year, and based on the top quality of the individuals, many farms have returned mares to the son of New Approach who ticks all the boxes with his physical looks and pedigree, making him an easy stallion to match for any breeder.

He is producing good-looking predominately bay foals, with good bone, quality and his stamp of a very good well muscled hindquarter.

Warwick Render of Bush Hill reiterates the statement above, “He has enjoyed good support in his first two seasons and this has seen him get some quality mares and not just quantity – a vital factor in trying to get a young horse off to a good start.”

“So far this season a couple of the stand outs so far have been a smart strong half sister to Gr1 performer Neptune’s Rain, a quality racy colt out of the stakes winning Cold Cash, a big scopey filly out of stakes performer Winter Passion, a big strong colt out of the stakes winning Singspiel mare Polzeath [a mare that has produced multiple winners including the recent Lord Minver].

“We are still looking forward to foals out of mares such as Tracy’s Legacy (her first foal is “Remember When” this season’s juvenile Gr2 second placed performer), the winner of the Gr1 Garden Province Stakes – Temple Grafin, and Gr2 Fillies Guineas winner Go Indigo [dam of three winners including the recent back to back winner Varvacious] as a couple of examples. The quality of the mares he covered in the second season is largely credit to how impressive his first foals were.”

Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren during his career, his Gr1 form line was exceptional over 1200m – 1600m, having defeated in Graded Stakes races all of Vodacom Durban July winners The Conglomerate and Legislate, as well as Gr1 sprint masters Rafeef, Will Pays, Attenborough, Talktothestars and the likes of multiple Gr1 winners Abashiri, Rabada and Deo Juvente.

Warwick and Karin Render’s Bush Hill Stud, the breeders of such G1 winners as Wolf Whistle, Stellite and Zirconeum, will be offering a top-class draft at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale this April.

Bush Hill’s 12 strong draft includes yearlings by such proven G1 producing sires as Var, Oratorio, and Pathfork, as well as youngsters from the first crops of exciting stallions Flying The Flag, Coup De Grace and Willow Magic.

Resident sire, the impeccably red Galileo horse Flying The Flag, has four yearlings from his eagerly awaited first crop included in the Bush Hill Stud National Sale draft. The own brother to G1 winners Rhododendron and Magical is responsible for a colt (Lot 276) whose 5 time winning dam is a ½ to G1 performer She’s A Dragon, a filly (Lot 284) out of G2 The Fillies Nursery third Ashjaan, a half-brother (Lot 494) to Listed Michaelmas Handicap hero King Neptune, and a colt (Lot 502) whose G3 placed dam is a 5 time winning half-sister to Caradoc Gold Cup winner Chico Azul.

Var, the sire of more than 20 G1 horses thus far, is represented here by a filly (Lot 94) out of Fillies Guineas winner Go Indigo –a half-sister to a stakes winner by Var, while Var’s triple G1 winning stablemate Oratorio is the sire of a colt (Lot 259) whose dam was a stakes placed winner of four.

Crusade and Pathfork, both G1 winners at two, are both represented in the draft –Crusade colt Westminster (Lot 272) is a half-brother to 3 winners notably dual G3 Spring Spree Stakes second Angel’s Power, while Pathfork has a colt (Lot 526) out of G1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Silent Call.

Talented G2 The Debutante winner Tempted is represented in the Bush Hill draft by a colt (Lot 232) by triple G1 winner Jackson, while Tapit’s multiple graded stakes winning son Coup De Grace has a first crop son (Lot 314) out of Pretty Polly Stakes third place-getter Carina Coleman.

Another young sire with members of his first crop in this draft is Dubawi’s G1 SA Nursery winning son Willow Magic. The latter has a filly (Lot 429) out of G3 Magnolia Handicap winner and prolific producer Lee Danzig, while the latter’s daughter Millenium Reign also has a filly (Lot 448) by Willow Nursery on offer.

The 2019 National Yearling Sale is set to be held at the TBA complex in Germiston from April 24th to 26th and the catalogue can be viewed online at www.bsa.co.za.

KZN will be represented by approximately 70 horses at the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, taking place 24, 25, and 26 April at the TBA Complex.

The eight farms represented include half-siblings to Gr1 winner Lady In Black, and Black Types Malak El Moolook, Angel’s Power, King Neptune, Stella Mia, Celestine, Amazing Strike, Exit Here, Eventual Angel, Extradite, Just As I Said, Lala, One Cool Dude, Royal Pleasure and Queen Laurie.

The first crops of the very exciting young sires Flying The Flag (a full brother to Gr1 winning sisters Rhododendron and Magical), Willow Magic (the first Gr1 winning son of Dubawi to stand in South Africa) and Act Of War (Gr1 winning son of the recently passed Dynasty) on offer.

Flying The Flag had his first yearlings represented at the recent Cape Yearling Sale, and in a tough economic market an outstanding colt from Wilgerbosdrift sold for R140 000, in a sale where the average was R66 000.

Bush Hill Stud have brought a yearling from their family that yields multiple winners in every generation, that of King Neptune and Stella Mia, going back to the brilliant Gr1 winners Zirconeum and Stellite. A family that never disappoints, the colt is by Flying The Flag who is putting serious quality into his babies with good size and bone. Amongst Bush Hill’s draft are yearlings out of Gr2 winners Go Indigo, Tempted, Gr3 winner Rhythmic Roxy and Gr1 placed Silent Call with stallions on offer by Var, Pathfork, Crusade, Jackson and Coup De Grace.

Clifton Stud topped the sale last year with their beautiful Esterel filly Montreal Mist (and placed on debut this week for owners Mrs Mary Slack and Mr Javett), and bring a Flying The Flag colt out of a Gr1 placed mare Sauna’s Rose that has produced 6 runners and 6 winners. They also have a beautiful Capetown Noir filly (who has already produced his first Black Type with winner Brandina) out of a Galileo mare Miss Coco.

Cathy and Jonathan Martin of Hadlow Stud are bringing three yearlings, including a Crusade out of the very good looking Var mare Anatevka. This is her second foal and the family of Captain America.

Piemonte have brought a well bred draught once again, and amongst them is a Vercingetorix half-brother to Gr3 placed Celestina. Vercingetorix is very well out of the starting blocks this year with four winners. They also have Flying The Flag colt Massimo, a half-brother to three times Gr2 placed Amazing Strike. Piemonte, sporting a winners to runners percentage of 32.8% also have progeny of Global View, Soft Falling Rain, Jackson, Oratorio, Wylie Hall, Captain Of All and Capetown Noir amongst them.

Rathmor have brought a very strong draft once again – not only a sibling to Gr1 winner Lady In Black, but the progeny of two of South Africa’s top selling broodmares at their respective CTS Mare sales purchased by Rathmor – with Almosthaditall (sadly now deceased) selling for R2,4-million and Queen Of Spain, herself a half-sister to Coolmore sire Mastercraftsman, knocked down for R2,6-million. Rumour has it that Rathmor also have a smashing Captain Al yearling on offer.

They have sons by Frankel – the only on the sale – and Dynasty on offer.

Spring Valley Stud always carry a yearling draft with plenty of weight, and amongst them is a very well grown handsome Twice Over colt out of a half-sister to Stakes Winner Juan Two Three. This is also the family of Widow’s Lamp and National Bay. Another impressive horse is that by Flying The Flag out of Harolds Gold – the mare produced another winner yesterday at Fairview with Scribo. The Flying The Flag yearling produced a 9.5 at the Nationals inspections and must not be missed.

Bruce also brings his good families to the sale – that of a cracking Querari out of Bedloe’s Island, making the yearling a half-sister to 5-time winner Kahula from the family of Buy And Sell and Count The Money. He also has a beautiful Flower Alley filly out of Silver Fantasy – this is another family that guarantees winners, and has produced the likes of Gr1 winner Indiscreet Fantasy and 11-time winner London Call. The dam Silver Fantasy has produced 3 runners and 3 winners with 8 wins between them.

Summerhill’s draft only consist of progeny of their first season sires Willow Magic and Act Of War. They have received smart mares – and progeny on offer include a Willow Magic filly out of a mare that has produced 4 winners from 5 runners, another Willow Magic out of Gr2 winning mare Fisani, a Willow Magic out of Galileo mare Mumtazah from the immediate family of Gr2 winner Intergalactic, and an Act Of War half-sister to Gr3 winner Royal Pleasure. A farm that has produced 10 National Champion Breeders titles, they have had 3 – Black Type winners this season and lying 3rd on the National log behind breeding giants Mauritzfontein & Wilgerbosdrift and Klawervlei Stud.

Yellow Star Stud are back at Nationals this year and bring two yearlings by Gr1 producing sire What A Winter. They include a half-sibling to Listed winner Maggie Kay.

#kznbreds registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme are still to be confirmed, but they will be prominent at the sale with posters on stable doors and hip stickers in the sales ring. These horses will qualify for the annual KZN Breeders Race Day, restricted to horses registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme.

Summerhill have a plum sire in Willow Magic, the first Gr1 winning son of Dubawi to stand at stud in South Africa and getting off to a start at a farm that held the National Breeders Title for 9 consecutive years, 10 in total.

Stamping his yearlings with this handsome looks, good bone and muscular physique, Willow Magic has his first crop on offer in 2019.

Willow Magic (AUS), a glowing chestnut with flashy white legs and plenty of power in his hindquarters, is throwing outstanding types with strength and quality – sales inspectors have commented on the quality of his stock.

Trained by Sean Tarry in South Africa, the gutsy chestnut who was no stranger to Gr1 success, won the  Gr1 SA Nursery and Gr2 Dingaans. He went on to further place in many of the countries leading Gr1 races including seconds in the Gr1 Gold Challenge and Gr1 Gold Medallion, third in the Gr1 Post Merchants and Gr1 Premiers Champions Stakes. He also placed in two Gr3’s.

The only British stallion to ever sire 100 Group winners in no time at all. Dubawi is the sire of 38 G1 winners and counting, with 16% Stakes winners and 10% Group winners, this makes him one of the world’s greatest stallions.

Willow Magic is out of a 3-time winner La Willow, by Tierce.

Tierce is described as being a great galloper and one of the fastest in Australia during his time. He is the sire of Gr1 winner Encounter – and his race record reads 16 starts, 11 wins with three places. He won three Gr1 races including the AJC Sires Produce, the Golden Slipper, the Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes, and won three Gr2’s and a Gr3. He further placed two Group races and earned over $2,2250 000 in stakes in the process.

His race record is up there with the best and at one point undefeated with six wins in a row – accumulating 8 wins in total from 12 starts with two seconds. His wins include the Gr1 Cape Guineas, Gr2 Selangor Cup and going on to win three Gr3 races, as well as the Winter Juvenile Stakes Listed. He placed second again the Gr1 Cape Derby and placed in the Gr2 Green Point Stakes.

Summerhill’s website describe Act Of War as “A towering, athletic beast of princely proportions, not even the casual racegoer could’ve mistaken his presence and the elegance of his action for anything but the belongings of a comet in the making. “Not only was he the best miler of his generation, he was also one of the best milers I have ridden. Genuine, exactly the type to go to war with”. That’s what Anton Marcus thinks, and when he speaks, even the church mice listen.”

He is out of Equus Broodmare of the Year Si Señorita (Cordoba), who produced 7 winners at stud – incredibly four of them are Black Type, aside from Act Of War they include Subastador, The Stone Thrower and Luna De Victoria. Its the family of Top Gallant and Sharp Cookie.

Amongst the Lots on offer is Lot 34 from Rosedene Stud out of Gr2 winning Checcetti by Kahal. The mare has produced a winner with Make Your Move, from the family of Galant Gagnant. Another highlight is Lot 151 from Rosedene, out of Silvano mare Silver Carpet. This is a family bursting with Black Type, including William The Silent, Little Miss Magic, Bilateral and Blaze Of Fire.

Golden Touch Thoroughbreds offer his final Lot 173, out of a 3-time winning mare by a stallion that is a full brother to Giant’s Causeway – Tiger Dance. It is another leading American family that includes Menifee, Blueridge Mountain, sire Fasliyev, Misty For Me, Royal Poly, US Navy Flag and Ballydoyle.

Prominent KZN farm Spring Valley Stud will be represented by high-class draft at next month’s KZN Yearling Sale.

The farm, famed for breeding the 2005 July winner Dunford as well as G1 winning siblings Count The Money and Buy And Sell, and recent 11-time winner London Call, will be offering nine lots outright and another 11 as agent.

No fewer than seven of the Spring Valley yearlings on offer are sired by the farm’s resident A P Indy sire Just As Well. Best known as the sire of G3 winner Just Cruised In and Ready To Run Cup hero Chili Con Carne, Just As Well has been enjoying a prolific run as a sire of winners this season and is a sire who represents good value for money.

His yearlings in the Spring Valley draft include a colt whose granddam is flying filly Melting (Lot 5), a filly out of a winning ½ to Cape Fillies Guineas winner Indiscreet Fantasy (Lot 65), a filly whose third dam is July winner Devon Air (Lot 148), and a filly whose dam is a daughter of Spring Valley bred SA Oaks winner Bedloe’s Island (Lot 203).

Bang in form G1 winner and G1 sire Visionaire has a trio of yearlings in the draft, with his threesome headed by a half-brother to G1 Computaform Sprint winner Noble Heir (dam of Australian G3 winner Crown Witness).

Another promising stallion, Master Of My Fate, is doubly represented in the Spring Valley draft, with his pair including a half-brother to G1 Champions Cup second Black Wing (Lot 168), and a filly whose dam is a daughter of Equus Champion National Bay (Lot 234).

Other eye catching lots in this impressive draft is the Toreador colt (Lot 119) whose four time winning dam is a half-sister to Merchants second Captain Harry, and the Querari filly (Lot 121) who was produced by seven time stakes winner Charming Lady.

Caulfield Guineas runner up Time Thief has a colt (Lot 95) out of G3 Final Fling Stakes second Aqua Star, while six time stakes winning racemare Tomorrow’s Mist is represented in the Spring Valley draft by a colt (Lot 55) by Irish Derby runner up Golden Sword.

Eightfold Path has had a number of close places, as has Irish Flame – which is very positive this early in the year. Await The Dawn secured his first winner last week; keep an eye on his daughter Shadow Queen as Lot 5 – a half-sister to 10-time winner, Pisces Star.

Crusade in particular has a strong crop on offer this year – including siblings to Gr1 winner Wild One, Secretariat Stakes winner Matador Man, Gr3 placed Celestina and Gr3 placed Angel’s Power.

The highly anticipated progeny of Noble Tune will be top of the list for many buyers. With his outstanding looks, quality and pedigree, the son of Unbridled’s Song and half-brother to Honor Code has covered exceptional books of mares and amongst the yearlings on offer is a colt out of Gr2 winner Hidden Beauty, as well as Paths Of Victory as Lot 243 – the dam a half-sister to Spring Garland, Mahubo and Imbongi.

Noble Tune’s pedigree has been on fire over the past few years with his sire producing Arrogate and Liam’s Map amongst many others (and setting records at sales with his daughters), whilst the damline of Serena’s Song is in demand from the leading farms across the world – including Coolmore and Lane’s End.
