Both horses are owned by Mario Ferreria, trained by Louis Goosen and ridden by Chase Maujean, and both celebrated their fifth career win respectively.

Rodriguez (Twice Over – Jane S Piddy) has now won twice in a row over 1950m and a mile respectively.

His dam, Jane S Piddy, is a very well related daughter of Trippi from the immediate family of another Rathmor Gr1 producing mare, Mystery Dame. It’s the family of Nexus who has several nominations in Decembers KZN Breeders Awards, as well as Lady In Black, Solid Speed and Lizarre.

In five days, Clifton Stud have produced six winners including a feature at Turffontein, and borders on seven with Fairview winner Douglas Devastator born and raised at Clifton Stud for the Late Syd Rosseau.

We reported on the recent Clifton double at Turffontein, Egoli Mile winner Laguna Verde and Destiny Of Souls, and their scintillating results followed up with Thomas Mason-trained Battle Of Seattle (Mambo In Seattle – Countess Kinsky) getting his third career win in Zimbabwe for owner Mr Danckwerts.

Summer Fling (Mambo In Seattle – Olympic Affair) from the family of Clifton’s Durban July winner Classic Flag, opened their account at Turffontein, winning for trainer Paul Matchett and owned in partnership with Paul and Mr Kruger. It was her first win, and Summer Fling has placed from just three starts.

Miss Geriatrix, a chestnut filly from one of Clifton’s special families which includes Prince Of Kahal and out of a full sister to Fort Vogue, is unbeaten now from two starts and added Black Type to her pedigree, winning the Listed Ruffian Stakes for Natalie Turner’s Magical Lady Syndicate and trainer Sean Tarry Racing, ridden by Richard Fourie. Miss Geriatrix sold for R200 000 at the National Yearling Sale.

Miss Geriatrix. Image: JC Photos

Clifton are proud to present an Act Of War half sister to Miss Geriatrix (Vercingetorix – Velvet Glove) at the upcoming National Yearling Sale in April, whilst another close relative from the same family – Fashion Talk, has a Pomodoro colt on offer from Clifton’s Nationals draft.

Peter Blyth reports that Prince Of Kahal, a five time winner and multiple Group winner from the family of Fort Vogue, Velvet Glove, Fashion Talk, Vogue, Whatalady and Warm White Night, is currently enjoying his retirement at their farm in Rosetta.

Clifton’s run concluded with Acacia’s Blossom winning for Rathmor Stud’s Mario Ferreira on Monday at Hollywoodbets Greyville. By Flower Alley, a producer of good fillies, she is out of a Hussonet mare. It is the fourth win for the beautiful chestnut filly out of Endearment.

Clifton’s progeny have earned over R2-million in stakes for the season and 34% winners to runners.

Watch the race from Miss Geriatrix:

Producing winners weekly around the country and in particular for owner Mr Mario Ferreira, their pairing and vision to acquire well bred mares has paid off over the past few years, and seen the likes of Group winners such as Mississippi Burning (Gr1) and Nexus (Gr2) as well as Copper Mountain and Hasta Manana come through the ranks.

They enjoyed three winners in four days – two coming from KZN with newly licensed trainer Lorenzo Karriem (who recently enjoyed his first double), and Mogok colt Ntabazondi breaking his maiden in the care of Gavin Van Zyl in Johannesburg.

The McHardy’s stand a son of War Front, a half-brother to Gr1 winner Honor Code and Gr2 winner Noble Tune, Declarationofpeace covering his first book of mares in 2021 and receiving a full book.

They also stand Linngari, a stallion whose progeny are a pleasure to own with regular visits to the winners enclosure – 9 wins from 20 runners and 36 places to date.

Sold for R220 000 off the National 2YO Sale, he was given a fantastic ride by Kaiden Brewer to win by over a length.

Well done to Piemonte Stud and the connections!

Paul Lafferty’s handsome chestnut Buckleberry, bred by Alan and Vera Sutherland of Somerset Stud, impressed to win at Greyville after being unlucky in his three prior starts – finishing in 2nd place in all three previous attempts.

In the Barrier Trial prior to Buckleberry’s win, two Crusades finished 1-2 – Getaway and Linear.

This time under Anton Marcus, Buckleberry finished over five lengths clear of another #kznbred, Wishful Words, a Byword out of Linsumi.

Crusade, who covered his 2018 season at Clifton Stud, also had a very impressive juvenile winner recently at Fairview as Ndoro Stud-bred Wild Move won second time out in a speedy fashion. For the current month, Crusade has had 3 winners and 3 places, two of them were seconds.

Buckleberry sold for R150 000 at the 2017 National Yearling Sale. This is the family of Hail Caesour and Cartel.

According to current stats on www.arion.co.nz, Crusade has produced a lifetime winners to runners percentage of 46%, with 4 Stakes Wins.

His leading horse is 4-time winner Covered In Snow bred by Clifton Stud, who has won two Listed races. Clifton Stud have a full brother at foot currently at Clifton Stud.

Noble Tune’s three year olds as predicted are coming through and he had a stunning win on Sunday at Scottsville with the well-bred I’m Free.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-8848" src="https://kznbreeders.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/CAN_1013-197x300.jpg" alt="Noble Tune x Mystery Dame colt beginning his sales preparation.
It may have been a double for Noble Tune had Noble Joshua not been scratched on the day after being injured in transit, the winning Gareth Van Zyl runner was strongly fancied for Sunday.

Bought by Wayne Badenhorst for R45 000 at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale and owned by Keith Smith, I’m Free is out of Silvano mare Free Parking.

She placed third on race debut impressively and won her second start on Sunday at Scottsville over 1200m, winning in a very easy fashion under Lyle Hewitson.

Another horse knocking on the door for a win is Frozen Tune who finished second to Line Of Control but half a length.

A leader at one point of the race in the final 400m, Frozen Tune has been unlucky – placing second in five of his eight places from 10 runs.

Noble Tune has had seven wins this season, with Noble Joshua recently and Paths Of Victory winning on two occasions.

Noble Tune stands at Rathmor Stud and Mike McHardy is pleased to report that he has had visiting mares from the Cape this season.

His Curlin half-sister recently sold at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $600 000.

Amongst Rathmor’s draft for the 2019 National Yearling Sale is a Noble Tune half-brother to Gr1 winner, Lady In Black.

This is the damline of the brilliant Argentine gelding Resfa, who was South Africa’s champion 3yo colt and won at the top level in South Africa and Hong Kong. Dam Pachouli Moon (Al Mufti) is a winner of the Gr3 Three Troikas Stakes.

Image: Candiese Marnewick

As predicted by Rathmor Stud who have been emphasising that the Noble Tune’s will be at their best as 3yo’s and over sprinter-miler distances, he is off to a start with four winners in the new season and a winners to runners percentage of 25% and almost R300 000 earned to date. His stats make him one of the leading sires in KZN currently.

The beautifully-bred Paths Of Victory won going away over 1900m for young trainer Gareth Van Zyl and enjoyed the step up in trip from 1400m. A particularly exciting prospect is the imposing grey born and raised at Rathmor, that of White Lightning.

Very unlucky in his first two starts, which saw him finish second by literally a whisker on race debut, he ate up the Greyville turf to win going away easily under Anton Marcus by two lengths. He is out of a Black Type mare that has won 8 times.

Another handsome horse, Albrandino bred by Piemonte won at Fairview after placing from 3 previous starts. Out of a Royal Applause mare and trained by Alan Greef, he won over 1000m. Another winner for Noble Tune followed the next day at Turffontein, this time over 1450m with Abelie.

Out of Bayard Crown by Strike Smartly, it was only a matter of time before she entered the winners enclosure after placing five times from six previous starts – and she won by almost six lengths clear. She is a half-sister to 8-time winner Amazing Strike.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-5467" src="https://kznbreeders.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/MG_6264-nobleThead-1024x813.jpg" alt="The Noble Tune's are on their way. Image: Candiese Marnewick

Play Another Tune will be one to watch for the coming season – now a three year old, the gelding as a juvenile finished fourth in the Gr1 Premier’s Champions Stakes to the sharp Soqrat (AUS), and won and placed four times from six starts from 1000m – 1600m. Out of the brilliant mare Goat’s half-sister, he will be looking for distance as a three year old with his pedigree for trainer Gavin Van Zyl.

Rathmor have bred recent winners including Jaunita, who changed hands after the sad passing of trainer Leon Erasmus and is now in KZN with Dennis Bosch. The half-sister to Rathmor’s famous white colt, she got her much deserved first win, first time out in KZN after placing 14 times from 40 starts. She has earned over R205 000 in stakes.

Pata Pata, a Var half-brother to three-time winner African Victory who won his maiden by 9 lengths, has won twice from the stable of Brett Crawford and placed five times – four of those in second place! His Noble Tune 2yo half-sister, I Write The Songs, has Barrier Trialled at Greyville for Paul Lafferty.

Noble Tune stands at Rathmor Stud for a fee of R25 000.
