Leading KwaZulu-Natal thoroughbred nursery, Spring Valley Stud, will be offering a pair of well related two-year-olds at the upcoming November Two Year Old.

Both lots in this draft were sired by Spring Valley’s well performed young stallion Rabada, whose five wins, from just ten starts, included scores in both the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes and G1 Daily News 2000.

Onnetilia (Lot 1), the very first lot to go through the ring, is a filly out of a winning half-sister to brilliant G2 Southern Cross Stakes winner Fairyinthewoods and to speedy Laisserfaire Stakes heroine Comet Chaser. Her granddam is a stakes placed half-sister to top filly Tarn Fairy, and this is also the family of star Eastern Cape filly Yoshie and Derby winner Mr Winsome, to name but two.

Zatara Magic (Lot 36) is a well bred half-brother to five winners, including G3 DSTV Gold Vase runner up Before Noon and last season’s Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby/Listed East Cape Guineas winner Jaeger Moon.

Out of a five time winning half-sister to the dam of last season’s stakes winning two-year-old Twice The Trip, this colt’s granddam is a half-sister to former Horse Of The Year, and five time G1 winner, Yard-Arm.

Spring Valley Stud, whose past alumni include the likes of July winner Dunford as well as the G1 winning siblings Buy And Sell and Count The Money, will be offering three lots at this year’s Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.

The KZN farm’s string is made up of two-year-olds sired by Crusade, Futura, and Judpot.

Blue blooded sire Judpot, whose progeny include champion Along Came Polly and fellow G1 winners Coral Fever, Forest Indigo and Juxtapose, is responsible for a filly (Lot 77) out of a full-sister to the four time winning dam of Eastern Cape champion Widow’s Lamp, and further back, this is the family of champion National Bay.

The short-lived Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade is represented here by Green Card (Lot 127) – a full-brother to the useful Linear and from the same family as all of Shadeed, Swale and Forty Niner.

Horse Of The Year, Futura, has made a sparkling start to his stud career, and Spring Valley Stud will be offering a very smart colt by the champion at this year’s National 2YO Sale.

Raffanetti (Lot 295) is a half-brother to six winners, including G3 winning millionaire Masai Warrior, and this colt’s dam is a half-sister to a G2 winning millionaire in the form of Natural Selection.

Hashtagyolo (Dynasty – My Guiding Star) has foaled a super first foal, a colt by Gimmethegreenlight at Spring Valley Stud.

Bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds – a breeding partnership between Bruce Le Roux and Tinus Gericke – Hashtagyolo was one of their initial purchases for a goal to purchase the best yearling fillies they could for their future broodmare band, and the gamble has paid off.

Even purchasing Hashtagyolo had its own story, with the choice between two Dynasty fillies on offer at Nationals who went through the sales ring one after the other. As it turned out, the other filly that was Lot 229 after Hashtagyolo (Lot 228) was Lady In Black, then named Grace Of An Angel.

Hashtagyolo started off her career winning her first three starts in facile fashion in the care of Dean Kannemeyer. Her wins included the Gr3 Flamboyant and the KZN Fillies Guineas Trial.

A R1,1-million purchase from the 2016 BSA National Yearling Sale that has yielded a number of champions including Do It Again, Lady In Black, Rainbow Bridge, Surcharge (Yulong Prince), Monks Hood and Brave Mary.

Hashtagyolo was sent to Gauteng with Gr1 features in mind but sadly picked up a virus not long after arrival, and took very ill and almost didn’t survive.

Being the brave individual she is, she fought courageously through it and Bruce collected her from the veterinary clinic in Johannesburg, to bring her ‘home’ where he felt the fresh air and lush grass would do her good and revive her appetite – and it did.

She had an extended break as a result, and came back to win her Barrier Trial and subsequently finished three lengths off in her next two starts, to Lady In Black and Fresnaye. Sadly she was never back to her previous brilliance after her illness and we probably didn’t get to see the best of her in the unfortunate circumstances, and a decision was made to retire her.

Hashtagyolo will be visiting Gr1 producing young sire, Vercingetorix, for the 2020 season. Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Hashtagyolo’s dam is a half-sister to Master Of My Fate and Justhewayyouare. This is also the family of Covenant (Erik The Red), Secret Heart, Pluck and London News.

#kznbred Rabada, a twice Gr1 winning son of Brave Tin Soldier bred by Summerhill Stud, has relocated to Bruce and Delia Le Roux’s Spring Valley Stud in Mooi River.

The very handsome stallion has his first foals on the ground, and will be yearlings in August.

Initially in training Michael Azzie and ending with Brett Crawford, Rabada retired a 5-time winner, including the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes as a two year old, and the Gr1 Daily News 2000, as well as the Gatecrasher Stakes (L).

He carries a pure Summerhill pedigree, being out of a Fard / Braashee mare – Jordie.

His sire Brave Tin Soldier stands at The Fort Stud – the sire of two Gr1 winners including export Brave Mary, and Gr1 runner up Running Brave.

Brave Tin Soldier was the most expensive weanling in the world at his time of sale, knocked down for a record US$3-million.

Rabada is a half-brother to the grey Glider Pilot, who also placed 4th in the Gr1 Daily News 2000 and to River Tyne, who is a 4-time winner and placed in the Listed Ladies Slipper. This is the female line of Naan Khaatay and Tomorrows Miss.

He is a stallion that has quality in abundance and stands 16.1.

Summerhill Stud has been sold and now stands sport horses for Capital Stud and owner Henning Pretorius.

The Mooi River farm will be offering yearlings by such top stallions as Gimmethegreenlight and Querari, as well as by such exciting young sires as Flying The Flag and William Longsword.

Former SA Oaks winner Bedloe’s Island, herself a half-sister to the G1 winners Buy And Sell (Daily News 2000, Champions Cup) and Count The Money (Woolavington 2000), has a smashing Gimmethegreenlight filly (Lot 43) on offer, while smart racemare Ikati (a stakes placed winner of seven) has a colt (Lot 202) sired by Redoute’s Choice’s dual G1 winning son Wylie Hall.

Querari, the Leading Sire of 2Yos in South Africa for 2018-2019, has two nicely bred fillies  in Spring Valley’s draft. The first is a filly (Lot 84) whose dam is a full-sister to the very talented Youcanthurrylove, third in the recent G1 SA Classic, and the second is a daughter (Lot 459) out of a dual winning half-sister to Cape Fillies Guineas heroine Indiscreet Fantasy.

Another half-sister to Indiscreet Fantasy, Listed The Scarlet Lady winner Silver Fantasy, is also represented in Spring Valley’s National Sale draft, with that daughter of Silvano responsible for a filly (Lot 397) sired by deceased Danehill horse Toreador.

The regally bred Flying The Flag, a G3 winning own brother to multiple G1 winners Magical and Rhododendron, has a filly (Lot 56) on offer whose dam is a four time winning half-sister to G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge winner National Spirit, while the William Longsword colt (Lot 415) out of a 3 time winning sister to G1 winners Redberry Lane and Solo Traveller is another yearling in this draft who promises to have his share of admirers.

Bruce Le Roux-bred Silent Crusade fought back courageously at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday on the turf, after she had a fall at Scottsville in her previous start as she was beginning her run for the finish – she was favourite for the race.

She won on Sunday under jockey Keagen De Melo, who after his fall in Pietermaritzburg was sent to hospital for observation after it appeared the filly faltered at something she had seen and lost her footing.

Silent Crusade is owned by the team that raced and had enormous success with the special Mark Dixon trained London Call – closely related to Silent Crusade through her dam – owners Messrs G N Cumming, C N Larsson, & R D Samuelson, and breeder Bruce Le Roux retained a share.

The smart daughter of Crusade pushed her weight through the pack descending on the winning post to take the victory on Sunday by a length. She has now earned her connections R323,775 in stakes, and Gr2 placed behind Oh Susanna, where she finished just over a length off, beating Gr1 #kznbred winner Camporatus in the process. Silent Crusade is Merit Rated at 108.

Silent Crusade is a nominee at the upcoming KZN Breeders Awards, in the categories of Champion 3YO Filly and Champion Middle Distance Female.

She has had 4 wins and 2 places from 8 starts and there looks to be no stopping her! Silver Fantasy has a beautiful 2yo filly by Flower Alley coming through.

Bruce Le Roux-bred and part owned Georgina Rose, a lovely Just As Well filly is now unbeaten from just two starts. Sold for just R75 000 at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale, she has earned over R120 000 in stakes to date.

The filly is trained by Garth Puller in partnership with Messrs G C Kalil, Bruce Le Roux & G B Puller.

She is a daughter of the unraced Island Girl (by Trippi), a victory made sweeter by the fact Bruce bred 2nd dam Bedloe’s Island – who produced for Spring Valley Stud the likes of COUNT THE  MONEY, BUY AND SELL and What’s Going On. Bedloe’s Island is also the dam of multiple winner Kahula. 

She has won at Hollywoodbets Greyville and Hollywoodbets Scottsville over 1200m.

Just As Well, from small numbers each year, has had 7 wins this season and stands at Spring Valley Stud. He has produced the likes of Gr2 Caradoc Gold Cup winner Just Cruised In, Listed winner Just Chaos, Just As I Said, Just Vogue and Chili Con Carne amongst others.

Bruce and Delia le Roux’s Spring Valley Stud will be offering 11 quality yearlings at this year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale in Germiston.

One of the picks of the draft is the Querari filly (Lot 39) whose G2 SA Oaks winning dam Bedloe’s Island is a Fort Wood half-sister to two G1 winners.

Four time winner Kileigh, a three-parts sister to Triple Crown winner Abashiri, has a choicely bred Master Of My Fate filly (Lot 116), while Silver Fantasy, a stakes winning Silvano half-sister to G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Indiscreet Fantasy, is represented in the draft by a  Flower Alley filly (Lot 217).

Master Of My Fate is also represented in this draft by a filly (Lot 103) out of a stakes placed winner of seven, while multiple Equus Champion What A Winter is also doubly represented, with his pair including a filly (Lot 309) out of a 3 time winning half-sister to G2 winner Silver Age.

Over The Bay (Lot 330) is a colt by champion and exciting sire Twice Over whose dam is a full-sister to the dam of East Cape champion Widow’s Lamp and this is also the family of Equus Champion National Bay.

Princess Phee (Lot 295) is a filly from the first crop of Horse Of The Year and four time G1 winner Futura, and this half-sister to the useful Aranjuez is out of a 3 time winning own sister to G2 winner Lazer Star.

Young Galileo sire Flying The Flag has two members of his first crop in the Spring Valley draft, including a filly (Lot 378) whose dam is a full-sister to top class racemare Cover Look.

Spring Valley are no strangers to producing high class racehorses, with the farm’s past star graduates including the likes of July winner Dunford and fellow G1 winners Buy And Sell, Count The Money and Indiscreet Fantasy.

The 2019 National Sale will take place from April 24^th-26^th, with each day of selling due to commence at 11:30 am.

Noble Tune enjoyed two winners in two days, following on from Romanesca’s win on Sunday at Greyville which we reported on previously.

The second win came on Monday in Kimberley with Kirav’s Tune (previously Rustic Tune), who appears to be enjoying the extra trip with Cliffie Miller – having placed three times over 1400m in all of his starts since his relocation from KZN, and winning over 1600m by over 3,5 lengths comfortably. Kirav’s Tune was bred by Bruce Le Roux, out of Miesque’s Approval mare Orange Blossom, a 6-time winner who is Gr3 placed up to 1600m.

Noble Tune has also had 13 places for the month of March until 26 March.

There are several Noble Tune’s on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, including our half-brother to Gr1 winner, Lady In Black, a yearling out of Negev, Azure Sky, a full sister to 2-time winner Paths Of Victory amongst them.

The National Yearling Sale takes place 24, 25 and 26 April at the TBA Complex.

Eightfold Path is amongst the leading sires nationally for his winners to runners percentage, an impressive 43,5% and included two winners over the weekend, and three winners in five days.

The French Gr3 winner over a mile has covered limited books but his results are impressive, with one commentator over the weekend stating that he is a very easy horse to mate in South Africa.

Carrying one of the leading pedigrees nationally, a son of Giants Causeway out of a 5-time Gr1 winning mare, Eightfold Path was relocated to Spring Valley Stud after the Scott Bros began winding down their 50-plus year old breeding operation.

One of the impressive horses on the weekend was the Scotts own Genereight, a filly that has now won and placed from 6 of her 7 starts, and earned her owners, including former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey, almost R150 000 in stakes.

The second over the weekend was Lady Sharon for trainer Belinda Impey, who had her first win after placing several times. The filly is bred by Seymour Harley and owned by Lady Colleen Glaeser in a partnership.

Spring Valley Stud are offering a handsome colt by Eightfold Path at the upcoming Nationals. He scored a 9 out of 10 on physical inspection and has a very impressive muscular hindquarter. He is out of Discordia by Western Winter, and a half brother to Stakes Winner Just Chaos. This is the damline of Abashiri, Yard Arm and Donya.

Eightfold Path stood for a fee of R10 000 in 2018.
