Bush Hill’s Splat The Cat by Crusade won her first race comfortably at the Vaal yesterday over 1000m, trained by Grant Maroun and ridden by S’manga Khumalo, defeating the multiple placed Pearl Of Siberia (Philanthropist).

Splat The Cat’s dam Penthouse Mouse is a half-sister to Gr2 and Gr3 winner The Mouseketeer, by Cataloochee (Al Mufti) as her broodmare sire. Splat The Cat, a beautifully topped and flashy filly sold for R100 000 at the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

Sadly Penthouse Mouse had bad luck with her first winner she produced in the handsome chestnut Cat ‘n Mouse – the Kahal colt for Sean Tarry won a stunning debut and was very highly regarded by his connections as a future champion, and sadly he died in an accident on the float home from his first race.

Penthouse Mouse has an interesting pedigree – the damline goes back to the likes of the phenomenal two by Al Mufti – The Sheik and Al Nitak, and her dam produced two Black Types in the above mentioned The Mouseketeer and Lt Jerry Mouse.

The Renders have advised that Penthouse Mouse has an Irish Flame 2yo filly named Celtic Cat, a stunning Toreador yearling colt that will be aimed at the KZN Yearling Sale and she has a beautiful filly by Flying The Flag at foot.

Crusade, relocated to Clifton Stud at the beginning of last season after the winding down of Scott Bros breeding operation, is bringing the winners in weekly, and currently sports a winners to runners percentage of 38,5%.

Bush Hill Stud have had 17 wins this season and 98 places, with almost R2-million in stakes earned.
