After crossing the line first in an impressive Barrier Trial run, The Bayou’s first race start at Scottsville saw him get left behind at the gates, and he ran courageously to fly up for third place. Its no surprise therefore that he started as favourite at Greyville over 1400m and flew home comfortably by over two lengths.
From small numbers in our province, KZN had a great Summer Cup race day with a Gr2 Merchants win, followed up by several places in the feature races of the day including a very close second in the Gr2 Dingaans. After Crusade’s flying grey filly’s annhilation of the field at Kenilworth on Tuesday, the son of Mr Greeley followed up with Crusado at Greyville on the turf over 1200m for breeders Bush Hill Stud.
Crusade has produced two winners in a week, the first with Roski’s Onamission for Mike De Kock at Turffontein, the other with Romantic Crusade at Durbanville yesterday for July winning trainer Candice Bass-Robinson. Glen Kotzen’s debut winning Crusade, Wings Of Honor, followed up with a third place yesterday at the same course.
