With 13 winners in South Africa so far for the season, Greenstreet Bloodstock’s Crusade, The Byzantine, won his third start in Mauritius. Consistently placing in South Africa with four places from six starts, the Scott Bros-bred The Byzantine is a half-brother to 4-time winner Moon Of Ragoon.

This is the damline of the brilliant Argentine gelding Resfa, who was South Africa’s champion 3yo colt and won at the top level in South Africa and Hong Kong. Dam Pachouli Moon (Al Mufti) is a winner of the Gr3 Three Troikas Stakes.

It was a win and a place for Crusade in Mauritius as Cathy and Jonathan Martin’s Hadlow-bred Hoppertunity finished third, just a length off in the Ginza Motors Cup over 1650m.

Crusade has a lifetime statistic of 45% winners to runners, and has produced three Black Type winners last season with Alfeo, Covered In Snow (2 Listed wins) and Zimbabwe’s Butchie Boy.

Crusade relocated to Clifton Stud where he has settled happily in Rosetta. He has produced lifetime stakes of R6,983,638, with 105 runners to date and 72 wins.

The Gr1 Middle Park Stakes winner stands for a fee of R20 000.
