Two-year-old Jerusalema Rain looks to be a horse with an exciting future ahead of him. Runner up on debut, he followed up a smart maiden win by finishing second, to subsequent G1 Gold Medallion winner Lucky Lad, in the G2 World Sports Betting SA Nursery before going on to win again next time out.

His breeder, Keivan Stud, will be bringing two quality yearlings to the 2023 KZN Yearling Sale, in the form of fillies sired by Horizon and Skitt Skizzle. The four time winning Psaltery, a half-sister to Listed East Cape Oaks runner up Katara (dam of former KZN Yearling Sale Million winner Winter Stories), has a Skitt Skizzle filly on offer. This filly’s sire sports outstanding statistics and Skitt Skizzle remains an excellent value for money stallion.

However, standout in this small but quality draft is the Horizon three-parts sister (Lot 64) to this season’s Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby winner Machete Man, whose sire, like Horizon, was sired by Dynasty. The Keivan bred Machete Man was winning for a third time in a row when he won this year’s East Cape Derby, and is another feather in the cap of his breeder.

Keivan’s three lots can be viewed from Block E at the Suncoast Casino in Durban.

Another quality draft which can be found in Block E at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale is the Mwetwood Stud. This draft is made up of yearlings sired by Erupt, Flying The Flag and Twice Over. The latter, whose dual G1 winning son See It Again is a leading contender for this year’s G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July, is represented here by a classically bred filly (Lot 56) whose dam is a winning daughter of G1 Woolavington 2000 and G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner Zirconeum.

Flying The Flag, closely related to this year’s impressive G1 Betfred Derby winner Auguste Rodin, is represented here by a colt (Lot 125) out of a half-sister to dual G1 winner Happy Archer, while Erupt (like, Happy Archer, sired by the mighty Dubawi), whose two-year-olds have been firing on all cylinders this season, has three lots in this draft including a half-sister (Lot 103) to Listed Syringa Handicap winner Way Of The World, and a filly (Lot 132) whose five time winning dam is a Tapit sired three-parts sister to Listed Umngeni Handicap hero Rodney.

Keivan Stud bred Machete Man by Act Of War won the World Sports Betting East Cape Listed for trainer Justin Snaith and owner Mr Kesavan Naidoo.

Out of Var mare Amazing Var, from the family of Tomorrow’s Miss and Naan Khaatay, the chestnut gelding sold for R200 000 off the August 2YO Sale of 2022.

The gelding ridden by Luyolo Mxothwa has won his last three starts in a row, and is a four time winner in total.

Machete Man becomes Act Of War’s fourth individual Stakes Winner, amongst War Of Athena, Battle Force and Rollwiththepunches. His wins have come over distances of 1800m -2200m.

Act Of War by Dynasty stands at Summerhill Equestrian, and is boasting a winners to runners percentage of 42.9% with two Black Type wins for the season and an impressive Average Earnings Per Runner of R65 283.

Act Of War has 11 yearlings on offer headed to the KZN Yearling Sale, including a half brother to recent Gr3 winner, Cliff Hanger.

Vanessa William’s Keivan Stud is on 35% winners to runners for the season and an AEPR of R68 000.

After the enthusiastic 9yo Royal Zulu Warrior had set a decent gallop in the well subscribed feature , the race for glory was on down the home straight and any one of half the field looked to have a chance at the 300m marker.

With Anton Marcus unleashing the consistent Stormy Eclipse down the wide outside from many lengths back, Stuart Randolph produced It Is Written down the inside as the Keivan Stud-bred son of Dynasty took the shortest route home.

It Is Written ran on best to win well by 1,25 lengths in a time of 96,91 secs.

A solid handicapper, It Is Written showed early promise and was being spoken about as a July candidate. His two KZN Champions Season victories culminated in a good win in the KZN Breeders 1600.

He ran in the Consolation July where he finished 8,40 lengths behind Ultimate Dollar.

It was Kannemeyer’s second December feature winner for owner Fred Crabbia, after Captain Alfredo (out of a King Of Kings mare) had clinched top honours in the Listed Southeaster Sprint at Kenilworth on 5 December.

It Is Written was bred by Keivan Stud and is a son of Dynasty out of the one-time winning Northfields mare, Good Rapport who has produced over 4 winners to date. The mare is a half-sister to American Flyer, from the damline of Australian 2YO Champion filly, Midnight Fever.

A R210 000 National Yearling Sale purchase, It Is Written has now won R535 925 in stakes and took his win tally to 7 with 2 places from 21 starts.
