The KZN Breeders Million Mile Field is as follows:

No Worries
(Kahal – Coastal Waltz by Rambo Dancer)
A seven year old Summerhill-bred and graduate of their Summer Ready To Run Sale, No Worries has been a pleasure to own for Brian and Yolanda Burnard. Merit Rated 103, the fiesty old soldier is going for his third attempt at winning the Million Mile and if he does, will be the first horse in history to do so. A six-time winner who beat dual Gr1 winner Rabada in his previous Million Mile victory, No Worries finished three lenghts off Marinaresco in the Gr2 Drill Hall Stakes at the beginning of May. Gareth Van Zyl will have the chestnut gelding primed for this race under Warren Kennedy without a doubt. A winner of the Gr2 Joburg Spring Challenge, he also finished second by a nose to Vercingetorix in the Gr1 Daily News 2000 early in his career.

<img decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-6545" src="https://kznbreeders.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/no-worries-horse-300x156.jpg" alt="No Worries winning the Gr2 Charity Mile.
Caribbean Day
(Modern Day – Caribbean Rose by Personal Hope)
The seven year old must be one of the last remaining sons of Modern Day on the racetrack, and the Middlefield Stud-bred has been consistent throughout his career in the care of Mark Dixon. He loves the 1600m and owned by Mr B A Richard & Mrs C C Richard, has had six career wins – winning his previous start and another prior to that, and placing four times from his last six outings.

Another picture of consistency, a six-time winner in Gauteng, this will be his second attempt at Greyville. He has beaten the likes of Irish Pride previously, the latter having finished twice within a length of Gr1 winner Rafeef.

Romany Prince

Lala
(Visionaire – Hlabelela by Muhtafal)
Albert Rapp’s liver chestnut mare trained by Doug Campbell is now four year old and won six times. A previous winner on this race day over this course and distance, she has placed previously in a Gr2 and Gr3 behind Olma and Cosmic Light respectively. She has Gr3 Track & Ball Oaks winning jockey Ian Sturgeon in the irons on Sunday.

Kings Archer
(AP Arrow – Qusoor by Fasliyev)
Shadwell Stud-bred chestnut horse Kings Archer is owned by Mr I F M van Schalkwyk, has won four times and placed over this course and distance. Placed consistently 21 times (seven of those in second!) he has not disgraced himself in good company and has placed over the course and distance.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-5542" src="https://kznbreeders.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Intergalactic-Gr2-Ipi-Tombe-Challenge-300x177.jpg" alt="Intergalactic lead in by Chris Van Niekerk, after winning the Gr2 Ipi Tombi Challenge.
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-6542" src="https://kznbreeders.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/MG_7927-dawncalling-300x193.jpg" alt="Dawn Calling challenges Querari Falcon in the finish of the Gr1 Thekweni Stakes.
Dawn Calling
(Trippi – Acquavella by Danehill Dancer)
Anton Procter-bred Dawn Calling has been very unlucky previously and deserves a Graded Stakes win this season. A gutsy filly owned by Mr David MacLean, the Trippi filly trained by Duncan Howells was voted Gold Circle’s leading two year old performer last season after placing second respectively in a Gr1 and Gr2 to Final Judgement and Querari Falcon. She has also followed up with two Gr3 places this season. She does relish the mile at Greyville and finished second (again!) in her last start to Louisiana in a Pinnacle Stakes, where she beat Intergalactic. Always game, she will be hard to beat here at the weights.

The Vodacom Durban July field has been announced, and sees KZN Breeders Million Mile entrant Rabada lining up for Africa’s most exclusive race for a stake of R4,25 million. The only other horse to attempt this double previously was Gr1 winner, Love Struck.

KZN-bred Rabada will carry 55.5kgs and jumps from a 12th draw for the stable of Mike Azzie. A jockey has not yet been declared. The handsome son of Brave Tin Soldier won the Gr1 Dailys News 2000 recently, silencing his stamina doubts. The Summerhill-bred owned by Markus and Ingrid Jooste will be looking for his sixth career victory, and it is his first attempt over the distance of 2200m.

KZN-bred Rabada will be attempting a KZN Breeders Million Mile/Vodacom Durban July double.
He is out of a Fard mare named Jordie (in turn out of a Braashee / Comedy Star mare), and descends from the same female line as Naan Khataay – himself a winner of the former KZN Breeders 1600 (Listed). This damline also includes Studio Fifty Four and Freedom Fortune. National Champion Breeders Summerhill Stud will be hoping for a win, after previous success and seconds with Igugu, Pierre Jourdaan and Smanjemanje in the recent past.

The Vodacom Durban July theme this year is “Leader Of The Pack”, and the Gallops will take place on Thursday 23 July at Greyville, starting at 7am.

The KZN Breeders Race Day takes place just a week (Sunday 26 June) before the running of the Vodacom Durban July, and besides the R2,6million in stakes to be won by the connections of the KZN-bred horses on the day in nine races, 25 pairs of Vodacom Durban July entry tickets will be given away on the day.
The final field for the exclusively KZN-bred field galloping for the stake of R1million has been announced, and includes recent Gr1 Daily News 2000 winner, Rabada. The KZN Breeders Million Mile is now in its fourth year, previously known as the KZN Breeders 1600 Listed.

The Mike Azzie-trained Brave Tin Soldier colt is also among the entries for the country’s premier event on July 2, takes on some top horses in this annual event sponsored by the KZN Breeders Club and on his form is likely to start favourite for the
1600m clash. Owned by Markus and Ingrid Jooste, the Summerhill-bred son of Brave Tin Soldier will be seeking his sixth career victory. He carries 59,5kgs and will jump from stall five.

Two previous winners will also be contenders, with No Worries and Bezanova entered and draws of ten and two respectively.

No Worries, a son of Kahal has found good recent form and he is reported to be back to his best. The six year old gelding recently finished just a length off in second place behind Balance Sheet in the Gr3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup over 2400m and carries 58kgs under Warren Kennedy on the day.

The consistent son of King’s Chapel, Malak El Moolook, will represent the Sean Tarry stable along with Intergalactic, a daughter of Kahal out of a Galileo mare who enjoys a mile. Intergalactic was only beaten 1.4 lengths by top Cape filly Inara at Turffontein.
Malak El Moolook placed third behind Abashiri, only two lengths off in the Gr2 Gauteng Guineas and has been knocking on the door for a big win. He carries 52,5kg under S’manga Khumalo from a fourth draw.

Garth Puller’s consistent son of Mogok, Way Of Light, shoulders the heaviest weight of the field with 60.5kgs. The winner of the Listed Sledgehammer where he defeated the likes of It Is Written and Balance Sheet, the six time winner jumping from a draw of six has to be a major contender under Bernard Fayd’Herbe.

Backworth Stud’s big and powerful son of Miesque’s Approval, Humidor, will be attempting the mile for the first time at Greyville. He has had a previous run only once over 1400m on debut and placed fourth, being out of a Jallad mare Lewinsky’s Lover, seeing out the 1600m distance should not be an issue.

The fast gelding set a hot record at Scottsville earlier this year when he blazed to victory at Scottsville over 1200m in a time of 66.98 in an MR 86 Handicap, defeating Kildonan’s record set when running the Gr1 Gold Medallion. The lightly raced four year old has won four times from six starts, and placed once.

Three year old gelding Just Like Magic, trained by Robbie Hill and by Just As Well, defeated Vodacom Durban July contender Ten Gun Salute by a length to win at Scottsville over 1600m, has placed six times to date from his 10 starts – three of them close seconds. Over the course and distance, he has finished three lengths off to Abashiri previously on the turf. Just Like Magic carries 52,5kgs and comes off a draw of eight.

All the races at the meeting on Sunday are restricted to horses registered as being KZN-Bred and the eight other events on the card over distances from 1 200m to 1 900m will each carry a stake of R200 000.

Bookings are available in the Durban View Room at R325 per person, with 25 pairs of Vodacom Durban July tickets and other goodies to be won by racegoers. We look forward to seeing everyone there dressed in their black and white!
