Faustino, the sprinting Piemonte-bred son of Crusade made it two from two and his sixth career win at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

The gelding half-brother to multiple winners including the smart Filippo gave his syndicate much joy when bravely taking on Winter Baron to get up on the line by a nose under Keratilie Katjedi who gets on well with the gelding and has ridden him in his last three starts for a 2nd and two wins.

Faustino is out of Var mare, Wishful Eye.

Trained by Kom Naidoo, who has the smart Vercingetorix half sister to Faustino and Filippo, the black gelding is owned by Messrs Kenny Govender, E C Abraham, Rajan Naidoo, Mesdames D Jithoo and Trinisha Pillay.

Piemonte recently made news with Franca (Rafeef), who won the Eastern Cape Award for Champion 3YO Filly and Polytrack Filly. Out of Afnaan by Red Ransom (broodmare sire of Captain’s Ransom), Franca has won 6 times including the Aloe Handicap (NBT) and placing second in the Milkwood Stakes Listed.

Speedster Faustino left his rivals in his dust at Hollywoodbets Scottsville again, controlling the pace from the jump under Keratile Katjedi to secure his fifth career victory over 1000m, in a time of 56.22 seconds.

A recent winner of the World Sports Betting Dash over 400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville, the son of Gr1 sprint winner Crusade won by almost two lengths from Winter Flight, whilst his 8-time winning Toreador half brother Filippo finished further down field.

Bred by Piemonte Stud, dam Wishful Eye has been a star at stud to date with all four of her runners being multiple winners, and it will be exciting to see her beautiful daughter by Vercingetorix coming through the ranks; a graduate of the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

It was part of a treble for trainer Kom Naidoo on the day, including another #kznbred Candy For My Mommy for owner and breeder Mr Shaktie Bunwarie, a daughter of Noble Tune raised at Rathmor Stud.

Piemonte Stud have 12 two year olds on offer at the August 2YO Sale taking place at the TBA Complex on 26 & 27 August.

They include progeny by Erupt, New Predator, Flying The Flag who has had a slew of winners recently, Global View, a filly by Flower Alley (who is developing a reputation for producing good fillies), Captain Of All and the late Lancaster Bomber.

Piemonte Stud mare Wishful Eye had two winners this week in KZN, with Faustino (Crusade) winning on Sunday at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, and the courageous Filippo winning for the 9th time under the care of trainer Yogas Govender at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.

Wishful Eye, a Var filly bred by Middlefield Stud and from the family of Tetre Rouge, is a three time winner including the Listed In Full Flight Handicap, and ran a close second to the famed Val De Ra in the Kwazulu Natal Listed at Clairwood. Wishful Eye has produced four winners at stud to date.

Piemonte Stud presented a very exciting filly half-sister to the aforementioned geldings, to the BSA Inspectors for the Nationals in January. She is a beautiful specimen by leading sire Vercingetorix – look out for her in the catalogues this year!

Filippo is a 7yo by Toreador and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. Owned by Messrs P Rambaras, Y Naidoo & Mr J & Mrs N Deokynarain, the gelding relishes 1000m sprints. He sold for R230 000 off the KZN Yearling Sale.

Three year old Faustino has won three races all over 1000m for trainer Kom Naidoo, owned by Messrs Kenny K Govender, E C Abraham, Rajan Naidoo, Mesdames D Jithoo & Trinisha Pillay. Sold for R220 000 off the National 2YO Sale, he was given a fantastic ride by Kaiden Brewer to win by over a length.
