The KZN Grooms Training Course took place this week over three days and finished yesterday, taking place at Summerhill’s School of Equine Management Excellence.

A big thank you to Sam Sharkey for all her effort, Leigh Adams, Elize and Kabelo Pitori for all their teaching assistance, as well as the Thoroughbred Breeders Association of South Africa, Elsenburg Agricultural College and Singayenza for making it possible.

The Grooms who attended represented the following farms: Rathmor Stud, Far End Racing, Clifton Stud, Bush Hill Stud, Piemonte Stud, Summerhill Stud, Hadlow Stud, Spring Valley Stud. A big thank you to the farms and the various organisations concerned, and well done to all who graduated.

The top 5 Grooms from this course will head to Elsenburg in July for further learning and examination.

In association with the TBA, Elsenburg Agricultural College and Singayenza, a KZN Grooms training course is being made available to breeders from the 15 -17 March, and will take place at the School Of Excellence at Summerhill Stud. The closing date for registration is 29 February 2016.

This Level 1 course is open to all grooms, irrespective of their level of literacy. Having said that though, please bear in mind that grooms have the opportunity, should they pass, to proceed through all the levels. Please therefore, nominate grooms that, in your opinion have the potential to proceed further.

Training will be presented in English with a translator in attendance, who speaks 4 African languages fluently – including Zulu.

The approximate cost is R2500 per person. 50% will be paid by the TBA, with the balance by the stud. 20 grooms can be accommodated on this course and a certificate of attendance will be given at the end of the course.

The TOP 5 grooms will have the opportunity to proceed to the EQASA Module 1 Professional Grooms Certificate to be held at Elsenburg Agricultural College, Stellenbosch in July 2016 (3 days).
