The KZN Breeders Race Day final fields have been announced, with Matador Man now heading up the Million Mile field and in the final field for the Vodacom Durban July. The son of Toreador is bred by Scott Bros and Robin Scott has retained a share in the gelding.

On the afternoon of his announcement at the Vodacom Durban July Final Field and Draw announcement yesterday, his 2yo Crusade half-sister won on debut for Sean Tarry.

Their dam Sahara by Mogok is proving herself at stud and should be a serious prospect for breeders at the Scott Bros Dispersal Sale, taking place 17 July, with her first four runners all winners.

Matador Man Gr1 placed behind Marinaresco in the Champions Cup and recently behind Elusive Silva in the Gr2 1900, is also a winner of the Storm Bird Stakes Listed.

He will be looking to emulate No Worries when he lines up for the Million Mile on Saturday to try and make it two wins in a row and he comes up against Dawn Calling once again. Interestingly, his year younger Crusade half-brother is also an entry in the Million Mile – 2-time winner Subtropical, owned by the Burnards who had great success with No Worries.

There will be plenty of action on the day, and not only for the racing connections. The announcement of the KZN Jockeys and Trainers Challenge will be taking place after Race 9 and its going to be exciting to follow the progression of the log throughout the day leading up to the overall winners.

Lyle Hewitson is in the lead, and with Sean Tarry sending a large contingent of 24 horses for the day, Lyle Hewitson has 9 rides whilst second placed on the log – Warren Kennedy – has seven on the day.

Champion Trainer Sean Tarry has said previously that this is a day that he plans for every year with his #kznbreds and took six winners in 2017, including the Million Mile – be on course to see if he betters that this year!

A day exclusively for the KZN-bred racehorse registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme, there are plenty of prizes for racegoers including 25 pairs of Vodacom Durban July tickets to be won in the #WinIfYouLose draw, a social media competition on course if you select the winning the horse from the parade ring (T&C’s apply), along with R2,5-million in stakes to be won for the winning connections.

It is a Proudly KZN day, so arrive dressed in your black and white!

Lunch is available in the Durban View Room on the day at R350 per head, rsvp is essential – please contact candiesemarnewick@gmail.com to make your booking.

Thank you to the sponsors, breeders, owners and trainers for the support of our special KZN Breeders Race Day.
