The KZN Breeders Club recently held their AGM at the Nottingham Road Hotel.

The well supported meeting saw the KZN Breeders Club Breeders Premium Scheme discussed. The format for the scheme has changed, with breeders no longer receiving a cash claim, but a voucher to use against stallion shares, services, purchasing of mares and fillies for stud nationally.

There will also be totals set aside each year, towards the purchase of a new stallion.

In order to qualify for the scheme and for progeny to be considered #kznbred, mares need to be resident in KZN and need to return each year from out of province by 31 March.

Warwick Render and Cathy Martin were thanked for their extensive work on the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme and implementing the changes.

Cathy Martin remains as Chairman, with Bush Hill Stud’s Warwick Render elected as Vice Chairman. Peter Blyth of Clifton Stud has resigned as a Director, and Cathy Martin thanked Peter for his work on the Board and his experience will be missed.

Camargue Stud’s Brett Van Laun, an active breeder and owner, has purchased a farm in the beautiful area of Caversham and was elected as a Director of the KZN Breeders Club. Congratulations to Brett and we look forward to the future!

The current Board is Cathy Martin (Chairman), Warwick Render (Vice Chairman), Bruce Le Roux, Ted Hughes, Mike McHardy and Brett Van Laun.

Ted Hughes has been named the new KZN Breeders Club Chairman after yesterday’s AGM held at the Nottingham Road Hotel.

Ted takes over the reins from Bruce Le Roux (Spring Valley Stud), who has stepped down to position of Vice-Chairman.

Director Warwick Render thanked Bruce Le Roux for his tremendous work, effort and ideas over his two year tenure as Chairman, as well as the work put in by Anton Procter who stepped down as a Director of the KZN Breeders Club.

Ted Hughes is passionate about the Thoroughbred breed in both racing and breeding, and can usually be seen at each KZN race meeting with his wife Ruth – each racing horses in their own colours.

Ted owns stallion Golden Sword who stands at Yellow Star Stud, a full brother to Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling and to Gr1 2nd French placed Sydney Opera House. Ted has a close association with the family that bred Golden Sword and he didn’t hesitate when the opportunity came up to buy the son of High Chapparal, who was standing at Summerhill.

Ted paid a visit in 2018 to visit the birth place of Golden Sword and see his dam Sitara, by Salse.

Ted has his own extensive experience in training racehorses as well as previously race riding in England.

The KZN Breeders Club Board consists of Lee Scribante, Mick Goss, Cathy Martin, Bruce Le Roux (Vice Chairman), Warwick Render, Koos De Klerk and Ted Hughes (Chairman).

The KZN Breeders Club AGM will take place on Tuesday 29 January, 11am at the Nottingham Road Hotel.

The KZN Breeders Club held our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday at the Nottingham Road Hotel.

Two new Directors have been elected to the current Board, and the KZN Breeders Club would like to welcome Cathy Martin of Hadlow Stud and Mick Goss from Summerhill Stud.

Koos De Klerk, an innovative Chairman of the KZN Breeders Club and currently a Director, has indicated that he will be stepping down in approximately mid-2018.

Koos’s vision for the KZN Breeders Race Day and KZN Yearling Sale amongst other things, has truly been a remarkable success and his much valued contribution to the KZN Breeders Club is greatly appreciated and we would like to thank him profusely for his enormous efforts.

The current Board of the KZN Breeders Club is as follows:

Bruce Le Roux (Chairman), Lee Scribante (Vice-Chairman), Ted Hughes, Roy Moodley, Anton Procter, Warwick Render, Mick Goss, Koos De Klerk and Cathy Martin.

The KZN Breeders Club held the Annual General Meeting yesterday at the Nottingham Road Hotel.

Chairman Lee Scribante thanked former Chairman Koos De Klerk for all of his hard work as the previous Chairman and its been through Koos’ vision that the KZN Breeders success has escalated over the past few years and put the Club on the map, particularly with regards to the very successful KZN Breeders Race Day. Koos continues to be a Director and now sits as Vice-Chairman on the Board.

Former KZN Breeders Chairman Warwick Render (Bush Hill Stud) has been elected back on the Board this year, whilst it is with regret that Peter Blyth and Stuart Crawford have resigned.

A big thank you to Peter Blyth (Clifton Stud) and Stuart Crawford (Greenhill Farm) for all their effort, input and hard work they have put in over the past years and we wish them all the best for the future.

The current KZN Breeders Club Board is as follows:

Koos de Klerk (Vice Chairman), Bruce Le Roux, Roy Moodley, Linda Norval, Anton Procter, Warwick Render, Keith Russon and Lee Scribante (Chairman).
