Summerhill had an incredible evening at the KZN Breeders Awards, scooping 10 awards last night including the Leading Breeder of the year and made all the more sweeter with a Grade 2 winner on the day at Turffontein.
Carrying top weight of 61kgs at the Vaal, Africa Rising put them to sleep by winning by a quarter of a length over the 1200m and showed his turn of foot, in the process defeating the very smart Gr1 winner, Mustaaqeem, who had his first defeat yesterday.
Three KZN associated horses will be running in the Gr1 Daily News 2000, which was won by Summerhill-bred Rabada last year. The three include Rabada’s grey half-brother Glider Pilot, Varsfontein son of Mogok, Pagoda, and Summerhill-bred Gr3 winning Visionaire colt Africa Rising.
