Cape Thoroughbred Sales will be hosting their Cape Premier Yearling Sale at the Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC) on 26 – 27 January 2012.
350 Quality horses have been offered on sale, all inspected by John Kramer and Tom Thornbury from the Keeneland Association, with John Freeman, Jehan Malherbe and Robin Bruss making the final choices and choosing the pedigrees.
884 Entries were received in total, therefore Book 2 will be offered 3 – 5 March 2012, which will be launched in a separate catalogue.
Aldora, Burwell, Summerhill and Yellow Star Stud will be representing the KZN-Breds at the sale, with all of them having mouth-watering pedigrees. With recent champions produced from KZN such as Dancewiththedevil, The Apache and Pierre Jourdan as well as The Mouseketeer, buyers should be sitting up and taking notice of what the KZN Breeders have to offer. We have a look at the yearlings being offered below.
Lot 268 comes from Aldora Stud, a filly named Saint Angelique. She is by Var out of Saintly Soul by Comic Blush. Saintly Soul is the dam of 7 runners and 5 winners. The fourth dam, Postulant is an own-sister to Savonarola.
Anne Woodham of Aldora Stud describes Saint Anglique – “This filly represents the studs first venture into selling in the Cape. We have always been mindful that we needed a yearling by a top stallion from a top female line and this filly meets all the criteria. By the brilliant VAR who is once again this season carrying all before him, out of SAINTLY SOUL herself a black type winner of five races. SAINT ANGELIQUE is a really strong athletic filly from a family full of Stakes winners who looks as though she will come early and is a half-sister to five winners including SOUL MASTER, the Derby Trial winner and the ultra consistent Saint Stephen who won no less than nine races.”
Burwell Stud have four lots on offer. The first, Lot 46, is a Dynasty filly out of Countenance (a 7-time winner) by Counter Action. The filly named Sweet Carolyn is a full-sister to two-time winner High Accolade. This is the family of SA Derby winner Debonair Duke, Grade 3 winner Block and Chisel and Act of Supremacy.
Lot 48 is a filly named Trenery, by Toreador out of Country Lodge by Grand Lodge. The dam is a 4-time winner and she is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Kongo Rikishio and Listed winner in France, Baroness Richter. The family includes Flawlessly, a 16-time winner in America, as well as being voted Champion Grass Mare in the USA twice.
Lot 226 is a Trippi filly named Rich And Rare. Out of Gauteng Fillies Guineas Grade 1 winner Pacific Blue, by Model Man, Pacific Blue has now had 4 runners and 4 winners including 3-time winner Bet On Blue by Mogok.
Lot 196 is a beautifully bred Trippi filly, out of Mantaray Bay by Sadler’s Wells. This is the dam’s first foal. Mantaray Bay is an own-sister to Front House, Gold Circle Oaks Grade 2 and Dubai City Of Gold Stakes Grade 2 winner. This filly oozes paddock value.
Seven consecutive season Champion Breeders Summerhill Stud are represented by six lots at the sale. Lot 9 is an A.P. Arrow filly out of Amy Jane by Orpen. The fourth dam is a half-sister to Roland Gardens, and the second dam Kundalini was voted ARCSA Champion 3-Year Old Filly in 1993. This is Amy Jane’s first foal.
Lot 62 is another A.P. Arrow filly out of Diligence by Kahal. Diligence is a 4-time winner, and this filly is her second produce. This is the dam-line of Canon Gold Cup Grade 1 winner, Desert Links. The filly has been named Flight Check.
Lot 85 is a Kahal filly out of Fidelity Bond by All Fired Up. This unnamed filly is a half-sister to 9-time winner Fanyana who has also placed in two Graded Stakes races. The dam-line includes Variety Club, Secret Rites, Novenna, Archbishop and Monastery.
Lot 206 is a colt named Alareef by the now deceased Stronghold, out of Machiavellian mare Modraj. This is a very exciting pedigree indeed, with the dam-line including current world champion stallion Galileo (sire of Igugu), Urban Sea, and world champion racehorse and now sire, Sea The Stars. This is a pedigree that should certainly attract attention at the sale.
Lot 252 is a Kahal colt now named Muskets and Roses, out of the mare Raise A Rose by Muhtafal. Raise A Rose is the dam of 2 as yet unraced foals. This the family of 8-time Graded Stakes placed Not Now Darling and 6-time winner, Marsh Harrier.
Lot 309 is another colt by Stronghold out of Sweet Virginia by Casey Tibbs. The colt is the mare’s second produce. This is another exceptional family, including the recent Sansui Summer Cup Grade 1 winner Dancewiththedevil, her half-brother and sire War Lord, Smart As Paint, Mighty Doll and sires Bizet and Modern Beat.
Yellow Star Stud have two lots on offer. The first is Lot 78, a colt by Var out of 3-time winner Evanesce by Kahal. It is the dam’s first foal, and she is a half-sister to Mercury Sprint Grade 1 winner, Disappear. The second dam Vanish achieved a 100% record with 6 runners and 6 winners including the aforementioned Disappear and Chekeche.
The second from Yellow Star is Lot 215. This colt by Kildonan out of National Feature by National Assembly boasts an exceptional Argentinian dam-line, with the family including Eventuail, Empress Club, sire Elusive Fort, Ecurie, Emerald Beauty and Escoleta Fitz. National Feature herself is a 3-time winner and placed 13 times.
