A.P. Indy Colt Tops First Session At Keeneland September Sale |
The Blood-Horse reports a group of Californians went to $1.4 million to buy an A.P. Indy colt in the opening session of the Keeneland September yearling sale in Lexington.
Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, the colt was purchased by a group. The colt is out of the Deputy Minister mare Malka, who is out of the graded stakes winner Get Lucky. Supercharger, the dam of Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and graded stakes winner Brethren, is a daughter of Get Lucky along with stakes winners Girolamo, Daydreaming, Accelerator, and Harborage. Get Lucky also produced She’s a Winner, the dam of Bluegrass Cat.
The colt will be trained by Hall of Famer Neil Drysdale who incidently trained A.P. Indy. He also advised the buyers on the colts purchase.
“I really can’t believe he went for $1.4 million,” Feld said. “He is priceless as far as I am concerned. With his looks and being by A.P. Indy… there aren’t going to be too many more A.P. Indys with that kind of pedigree. I thought it was a very good price for him. The plan is to win the Kentucky Derby.” He said he resembles A.P. Indy more than any yearling he’s seen. Same head, same neck, same way of moving. So that was a great endorsement. He’s one of the very few horses in the catalogue who, if he is successful, could be worth any kind of money.”
