The KZN Breeders Golf Day took place on Tuesday at Royal Durban, which saw the racing equestrian community from owners, trainers, jockeys and breeders turning out to support the day under beautiful warm winter Durban weather, consisting of 26 four-ball teams in total.
A big congratulations to Kevin Shea who won the tournament overall – and being the first award-winning recipient of the magnificent Ben Jonsson Floating Trophy.
Ben Jonsson, who has been a stalwart of racing is one of three triplets – including Hugh Jonsson who bred iconic South African sire Jet Master. Ben’s father was a top golfer of his day, and was the Royal Durban Golf Champion at the age of 50 years – the year he conceived his triplet sons!
The overall winners were Kevin Sheas four-ball with a score of 95, second position was sponsor Private Destination Club’s four-ball, third was Patrick Maujeans and fourth was Warwick Render of Bush Hill Stud’s four-ball.
A big thank you to Phil Georgiou and the following sponsors who helped contribute towards the days success – Equine, Excutrade, Bush Hill Stud, Fort Beluga, Byword, Summerhill Stud, Gold Circle, The Skin Clinic, Equine Thermal Imaging and Private Destination Club who made the day possible.
Kevin Shea’s winning four-ball included a R5 000 KZN Yearling Sale voucher for each of the team towards the purchase of a yearling at the upcoming Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.
The other lucky winners who each took home R5 000 vouchers from a lucky draw towards buying a yearling at the upcoming Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale included James Trotter, Peter Raman, Fred Vickers, Robbie Seville, Neil Hart, Ian Sturgeon, Pierre du Toit and Gareth van Zyl. Alstin Govender took home the R10 000 holiday voucher to exclusive holiday venue Tahiti on the South Coast, sponsored by Private Destination Club.
