Spanish Harlem Gets First Winner
Spanish Harlem Gets First Winner |
The impeccably-bred Spanish Harlem has got his first winner, filly Sweet Harlem winning on sand at the Vaal by almost two and half lengths over 1200m.
Owned by Mr Ramphelane Mathunyane and bred by Mr Robert Muir, Sweet Harlem was part of the first sales draft of Midlands Thoroughbreds that included Gr 2 winning Virgo’s Babe. Out of Sweet Briar by Joshua Dancer, Sweet Harlem has placed once before over 1000m, again at the Vaal.
Spanish Harlem, a big (standing 16.3hh) imposing son of Danehill out of the brilliant Gr 1 1000 Guineas winner Sleepytime by Royal Academy, stands at Middlefield Stud in Mooi River.
A two-time winner in the USA and Ireland over 1400-1700m, Spanish Harlem placed four times – including a second in the Gr 3 Gallinule Stakes over 2000m, as well as placing in the Listed Aquaduct Brushing Up Stakes.
Spanish Harlem has also had places with Wensleydale* and Wellesley, the latter recently running in the Gr 3 Graham Beck Stakes and placing three times from five starts. Wensleydale has placed five times from just seven starts.
Spanish Harlem stands for a fee of R5 000 this season.
*Press update: Wensleydale wins at the Vaal on 21 November over 1400m by three lengths! Congratulations to all concerned.
