Sarah Whitelaw Visits KZN
Sarah Whitelaw Visits KZN |
A top breeding and racing journalist both locally and internationally, Sarah Whitelaw visited a few of our breeding establishments in KZN, from Eston to Mooi River last week in unusually warm weather for the KZN Midlands winter.
A lady passionate about pedigrees and breeding of the Thoroughbred, with a tremendous wealth of knowledge and a tremendous asset to the horseracing industry in South Africa, it was an honour to have Sarah visit us and the breeders really enjoyed their conversations with her regarding pedigrees and matings in particular.
Sarah was introduced to almost all of the stallions present in KZN, as well as the dams of Dancewiththedevil, Gypsy’s Warning, The Mouseketeer, Irish Flame, Markofdistinction (to name but a few) and some of the most exciting new broodmares to come to KZN, ready to foal this season. A special visit was arranged with international sprinting sensation and champion, now retired at Balmoral Stud, JJ The Jet Plane.
The mares are all in the process of being weaned from their foals and afforded Sarah a great opportunity to view the first crops from young stallions as well as siblings to top performed racehorses.
Sarah remarked on her KZN visit: “I was really impressed by the quality of thoroughbred to be found in Kwa-Zulu Natal, and feel there are some really high class young sires coming through the ranks. While my personal favourite, due to his temperament and quality, may have been Kildonan, I think the likes of Capetown Noir, Crusade, and Noble Tune – to name but three, all rate as exciting young prospects.”
Thank you to Sarah for making the long trip to visit us, and to the farms that hosted Sarah during her visit and we look forward to having her back to visit KZN once again soon!
