The grey 17hh Gr1 Sire Of Sires’and Broodmare Sire Unbridled’s Song, the sire of Rathmor Stud’s Noble Tune.

From the 21 March until 4 April, Unbridled’s Song featured in Japan, Australia and America as the broodmare sire present in the winners enclosure and the first three across the finish line.

Five of them were Group races and two Listed; incredibly two of them winners on the same day at two respected American racecourses in a Gr1 and Gr3 – Keeneland and Aqueduct, with a place in a Gr1 at Santa Anita Park.

The sire of Rathmor Stud’s highly anticipated young stallion, Noble Tune [pictured in January 2015, below left], who is the only son of Unbridled’s Song to stand on the African continent and hails from one of the world’s best female lines – it isnt surprising to see Unbridled’s Song sitting fourth on the 2015 American Broodmare Sires List as of 7 April 2015 and 35th on the Leading Sires list in America nationally.

To put his American leading sire log into perspective, More Than Ready is 37th; the recently deceased Smart Strike is 40th whilst the great A.P. Indy is 65th.

A 17hh grey stallion, Unbridled’s Song died in 2014, not before leaving behind another top son for stud amongst many, the eyecatching Will Take Charge who was voted Champion Three Year Old colt.

Its little wonder that almost every top farm in America stands a son of Unbridled’s Song at stud.

Grey horse Ask Me Nicely(AUS) started the ball rolling at the end of March for Unbridled’s Song after placing second in Australia in both the Pinjarra Cup Listed (2300m) on 21 March, followed up on the 29 March in the Grandstand Cup Listed (1500m).

He is Gr2 placed previously. Out of mare Took A Chance, he is by Seeking The Gold’s son Ustinov.

22 March in Japan saw Japanese-bred Danon Platina finish third over 1800m in the Gr2 Sho Spring Stakes, three quarters of a length off the winner. This horse by Deep Impact won a Japanese Gr1 in 2014, the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes.

On 4 April over three different racetracks, starting with Santa Anita, three year old filly Luminance placed second in the Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks on a fast dirt track over 8.5 furlongs.

Another example of the powerful cross of Storm Cat with Unbridled’s Song which produced Noble Tune and Carpe Diem, she is a daughter of Tale Of The Cat.

This was followed up at Aqueduct with the Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes, El Kabeir finishing third just three lengths off to winner Frosted.

El Kabeir is a previous winner of the Gr2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, as well as two Gr3’s – the Gotham Stakes and Jerome Handicap.

Keeneland had the running of the Gr1 Bluegrass Stakes on a fast dirt track for three year olds, over 9 furlongs. Beautifully-bred Carpe Diem [pictured below], by Storm Cat son Giant’s Causeway, sauntered to a three length victory from Danzig Moon and Ocho Ocho Ocho, a grandson of Horse Chestnut.

This was the second Gr1 win for Carpe Diem after taking home the Breeders Futurity in 2014. Earlier this year he won the Gr2 Tampa Bay Derby. Based on his pedigree and race record, the chestnut colt looks destined for a stud career in the near future.

The last 4 April winner for Unbridled’s Song took place at Aqueduct in the Gr3 Bay Shore Stakes, winning by half a length. Named March, the three year old colt won over seven furlongs on a fast dirt track from Gr2 victor Lord Nelson.

Noble Tune covered a top quality book of mares last season and the Thoroughbred breeding community eagerly await the arrival of his first foals in August 2015.

South Africa and KZN are in a very fortunate position to have access to a phenomenal pedigree which has proved itself in America, Europe and Australia in the upper echelons of Classic horse racing.

A half-brother to dual Gr2 winning Honor Code and a weanling half-sister who fetched a record price of $3-million in November last year, Noble Tune is a Gr2 and Gr3 winner who also placed second in the Gr1 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf.

He is a grandson of Hall Of Fame racemare, Serena’s Song.

Noble Tune stood for a fee of just R25 000 in his first season at Rathmor Stud.
