Announce Returning To Hadlow Stud

Announce Returning To Hadlow Stud

Announce

“History speaks for itself so Announce is coming home,” said Jonathan Martin of Hadlow Stud, explaining that the stallion will arrive on Saturday 23 June. Announce will stand alongside his son Call To Combat and Jam Alley(AUS). Owned by Graystone Stud, Announce had previously resided at Craig Ramsay’s Golden Acres before being sent to the Cape.

“Over the past few years that he has stood with David Southey in Colesburg, we had numerous enquiries about bringing him back,” says Cathy Martin. “He is a stallion that throws a big substantial type of horse and the percentage of winners to runners speaks for itself. We have many mares on the stud who have produced above average offspring by Announce, as do other Breeders in KZN. It makes sense to bring him back.”

Cathy goes on to say that on a recent visit to the farm to see his horses, St John Gray was looking at some of the Announce babies that are still waiting to go into training and mentioned that every time he sees the foals from Announce, he falls in love with Announce all over again.

By National Assembly out of You’re My Lady by Roberto, he was a winner of four races (including the Listed Thukela Handicap) and placed seven times in South Africa over 1200-1600m from ages three to four. He is a full-brother to another Graystone Stud-owned stallion, Sarge.

A chestnut standing at 16.2 hands, this pedigree has proved to be a powerful dam-line producing many champion stallions. You’re My Lady has produced Gr 2 winner Lady Broadhurst, Daphne Donelly (dam of Bouquet-Garni), sire in the US Youthful Legs (by Explodent) and Lady’s Delight. Other sires to have come out under the first dam include Al Samer by Redoute’s Choice and multiple Gr 1 winner Diatribe, both in Australia.

Second dam is Spring Adieu, the dam of Damascus Gate and Razyana, the latter producing three sons by Danzig at stud. The first is Dual Hemisphere world champion stallion Danehill (who has seven sons or grandsons at stud in KZN alone), and his full brothers and sires Eagle Eyed and Shibboleth all by Danzig.

Third dam is of course Natalma, responsible for producing the best sire the world has ever seen – Northern Dancer. Natalma also produced Raise The Standard, who in turn is the dam of Coup de Folie who produced Machiavellian and Mogok. Other stallions to come from this line include Exit To Nowhere and Way Of Light.

Announce’s sire National Assembly is by Danzig, and did not race himself but he has produced multiple Gr 1 winners and has gone onto be a sire-of-sires, producing the likes of National Emblem and War Lord – half-brother to the dam of Dancewiththedevil.

Announce has produced 133 runners to date, with a staggering 82 winners – five of those are Stakes Winners and eight Stakes Placed. His progeny with Graded Stakes winners Announce Speed, winner of the Gr 3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, Horatio – another winner of the Gr 3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, Call To Combat – winner of the Wolf Power 1600 Listed, DJ Detzky – winner of the KZN Breeders 1600 Listed, Engagement – winner of the Syringa Handicap Listed. His Stakes Placed horses include Sound Of Thunder, Chigger Yellem, Select The Star, Swarming, End Of Season, Share The Silver and My Jelly Bean.

Announce stood for a fee of R18 000 for the 2011 season.
