Rathmor Stud’s Frankel, the only colt by the famous English son of Galileo on the National Yearling Sale, was knocked down to Bass Racing for R1,2-million. The colt named Juan Carlos and consigned as Lot 182 is out of a five star pedigree, the dam being a R2,6-million purchase at the CTS Mare Sale.

Queen Of Spain by Holy Roman Emperor is a half-sister to sire and super racehorse Mastercraftsman and Genuine Devotion.

Rathmor sold exceptionally well on the first days trading, with their smart Dynasty colt out of Almosthaditall, who was also a record setting mare at the CTS Mare Sale, sold for R600 000 to Team G Racing, whilst their beautiful Var – Hidden Beauty filly went to Fortune Racing for R500 000.

Rathmor’s filly shared the top priced KZN-bred filly of the day with Spring Valley Stud, who consigned a beautiful filly by Master Of My Fate out of Kileigh. She sold to Michael Roberts for R500 000. She is from the immediate damline of Abashiri and Yard Arm.

Bush Hill consigned a single Lot, an eye-catching grey daughter of Var who will be a speedball, out of Gr2 winner Go Indigo. Its the second foal for the mare, last year she sold the highest priced Captain Of All for R350 000, her first foal.

Piemonte sold two lots on the first day – the first snapped by Ndoro Stud as possibly a future broodmare prospect, she is a smart daughter of Soft Falling Rain out of a Black Type Western Winter mare, Winter Fantasy for R200 000. It is a brilliant family of Cherry On The Top and Simply Royal. The Scribantes also sold a smart colt by Global View for R250 000 to Dippin Blue Racing. Lot 136 Ceaero is out of 8-time winning Lunar Lee.

The news of the day came with a record shattering sum of R9-Million paid for Lot 184, a Silvano colt full sibling to Gr1 winner Nightingale, bred and consigned by Wilgerbosdrift. Congratulations to Wilgerbosdrift and Shadwell, who have each supported KZN breeding over the past years in particular with stallions.

The average per yearling sold on the first day was R535 181.

Look out for the first Lots of Flying The Flag, Willow Magic and Act Of War to go through the ring later today!

Congratulations to the vendors and buyers concerned.
