Piemonte Clean Up At Fairview On Friday, Carlita Impresses!
The Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship at Scottsville in May could be on the radar for the talented Piemonte-bred Oratorio filly Carlita, who registered her first stakes success with a facile victory in the R150 000 Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery at Fairview on Friday.
It was a red-letter day for Piemonte who produced three winners on the day, including Alfeo (Crusade) and Romano (Irish Flame).
Having her first run at 1200m, and with two wins and a solid runner-up credit to the Australian-bred Traces in the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes at Kenilworth on Met day, Carlita looked particularly hard to oppose in the eight-horse field.
Aldo Domeyer, who was doing the riding honours for his Stepmother Ashley Fortune and the Greeffs, rode a confident race on the Piemonte Stud bred youngster.
Relaxed a few lengths off the pace set by Seattle Empress, Carlita tightened up on the outside and asserted herself at the 200m marker to win in good style.
She beat the Pathfork maiden Madame Speaker by 2 lengths in a time of 68,82 secs, with Potala Palace debut winner Watsonia back in third.
The Piemonte Stud-bred Carlita has now won three races from four starts for stakes of R214 375.
A bargain buy off the KZN Yearling Sale for R35 000, she is by Oratorio (Danehill) out of former Backworth Stud broodmare, Auburn Annio (Point Given). This is the damline of sire Spring Halo.
Lee and Dino Scribante’s Piemonte Stud present an exceptional draft for the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, which includes an Irish Flame half-sister to Gr3 winner O Tamara, with progeny by sires Noble Tune, Byword, Wylie Hall, Jackson, Ideal World, Master Of My Fate, Captain Of All, Visionaire, Irish Flame and Bold Silvano.
