Vodacom Durban July Entries Announced
Vodacom Durban July Entries Announced |
With 79 days to go the first entries for the Vodacom Durban July have been announced, with the big race being run on Saturday 7 July at Greyville. The theme for the Vodacom Durban July this year is “A Material World”, while the July Gallops will be taking place 28 June.
KZN has an exciting time of year coming up that includes the KZN Yearling Sale taking place at Suncoast on the 5 and 6 July before the big race day.
With the recent announcement of the KZN Breeders exciting new Triple Million Challenge, a yearling that passes through the KZN Yearling Sale (with T&C’s) at Suncoast Casino this year will be eligible to run in a R1-million race on Vodacom Durban July day next year, a huge incentive to get involved and buy a KZN-bred racehorse.
The KZN-breds once again are a force to be reckoned with this year, headed up with gutsy champion mare Dancewiththedevil (Graystone Stud) who has a very real chance of taking this one home. The KZN Breeders Horse-Of-The-Year has won five Grade 1 races to date and earned herself almost R4-million in stakes; she is not shy to take on the best of the boys and win.
Pierre Jourdan was recently auctioned for an amount of R1,6 million to dissolve a partnership. A Summerhill-bred R60 000 Two Year Old, he has earned over R4-million in stakes, and clearly his new owners feel there is still a lot more to come out of him. He ran a close second to winner Igugu last year.
Bush Hill-bred Grade 1 winner Seal has also been nominated. He ran just two lengths off the winner in the Grade 2 Colorado King Stakes on 7 April and Gavin Van Zyl should be quite excited about his chances here.
Baracah, a R190 000 yearling, consigned by Aldora Stud and trained by Sean Tarry, is a half-brother to the ill-fated Goat by King Of Kings. He finished 5 lengths off Slumdogmillionaire in the SA Classic Grade 1 recently.
Soul Master, a son of KZN-bred Jet Master and a R275 000 yearling consigned again by Aldora Stud, won the Pinnacle Stakes by over a length on 15 April over a distance of 2600m carrying a hefty amount of weight(66kgs), with the horses all placing behind him only carrying 58kgs. He ran a third in the Caradoc Gold Cup Grade 3 in March. He is certainly going to be one to watch.
Checcetti, another Summerhill-bred was a R320 000 Ready-To-Run graduate of 2009. A daughter of Kahal (a stallion also being represented by Tales Of Bravery) she recently won the Jacaranda Handicap Grade 3 over 1800m, defeating Flirtation by over a length.
