The Fort Stud: 10 Winners Bred And Pretrained This Year |
Jill Fox of The Fort Stud is thrilled to report 10 winners this year along with a number of places, from horses that have come from her lovely farm in Fort Nottingham – either bred, raised, and/or backed and pretrained at The Fort Stud.
The most recent winner to come is Diesel Jet who has now won three on the trot and placed three times from seven starts. Diesel Jet was backed and pre-trained at The Fort Stud where Jill runs a very ‘hands on’ personal approach to the horses in her care, including backing and riding the horses herself.
Diesel Jet is trained by Erico Verdonese and owned by Mr & Mrs E R Grace and Mr D D Savadier, with his biggest win margin at the Vaal over 1800m by well over two lengths under Piere Strydom.
Other horses backed and pretrained at The Fort Stud include Fortissimo, a son of Fort Beluga bred by Bruce Le Roux, who has found the winners enclosure twice and placed once from four starts for trainer Garth Puller.
The next is Promicing Polly, bred and owned by Mrs Margaret Filmer. The five year old mare by King Of Kings (now a resident sire at The Fort Stud), won at Kenilworth in January, making it her third win and placing eight times – including a second to another of Jill’s pretraining graduates – Go Greaselightning.
Go Greaselightning is a four year old trained by Neil Bruss for breeder Mr B Bougardt, who has retained a share in the Jet Master filly. She has won twice to date, more recently in early February and has placed three times.
A stablemate to Fortissimo, Brachetto is a Judpot gelding who has also been in the winners enclosure for The Fort Stud. Owned by Messrs G L O’Brien, E Cassim, A A Mohamed trainer Garth Puller, Brachetto won in January and has placed three times at three different tracks in KZN.
Craig Eudey’s six year old daughter of Casey Tibbs, is a three time winner who has placed twice this year at Greyville over 1600m.
Hey Sugar, by Mogok and bred by The Fort Stud, has placed twice for owner Mariska Botha and trainer Wendy Whitehead whilst another from the Garth Puller stable by Judpot, Anafesto, placed second in January – taking his record to five places and one win.
Three year old Mullins Bay filly, Respect At Bay won impressively on debut for Garth, winning by a quarter of a length over 1000m at Greyville from Corresolve. Others to place this year for Jill were Kahal gelding Nishac and Des Egdes’ French Mark.
Horses bred and pre-trained at The Fort Stud include the consistent His Approval, bred by Messrs R Williams and Stewart MacGregor. Stewart has retained ownership of the Miesque’s Approval gelding out of Diesis mare Lilly Pilly(USA).
The gelding trained by Duncan Howells won well at Scottsville at the end of January over 1400m, taking his record to two wins and nine places.
Ball Dancer, a filly by Solksjaer bred by Mr C Hunter at The Fort Stud, won very well by almost three lengths at Fairview over 1600m, her second win to date for trainer Yvette Bremner. The filly has placed three times.
Breeder and owner Rob Smith’s good looking chestnut gelding Al Ciberano by Al Miqdaam was born at The Fort Stud.
Al Miqdaam is a son of Danehill who hold 100% win record for just two progeny to race – both winners! Trained by Tony Rivalland, Al Ciberano has won three times and placed four times, being out of the money only twice, his most recent was finishing second on 22 February at Greyville by a nose to Eddie Sweat.
