Bush Hill Stud had a successful Super Saturday at Greyville, with Tetelestai winning the final race of the day under jockey Anthony Delpech – the Umngeni Handicap Listed by a length from Mike Bass’ Captain’s Secret, whilst carrying the top weight of 59kgs. Captain’s Secret was carrying 58kg. The five year old gelding trained by Duncan Howells is by Bezrin (standing at Rathmor Stud) has now won nine times – including winning this race this race last year by a length from Rushing Wind.
Tetelestai now takes his stakes earned to over R650 000. A consistent racehorse, he has placed nine times from 30 starts. His full-sister, Agape Reigns, bred and consigned by Bush Hill Stud sold at this year’s Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale for R100 000.
Another Bush Hill-born and raised Silvano gelding for breeder Dr Ian Heyns, Seal, ran an admirable fourth in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup Grade 1, after winning easily over 3200m in the Mango Gold Vase Gr 2 on Vodacom Durban July Day. Seal ran just 2.5 lengths of the Argentine import In Writing, with Princess Of Light and Blake filling in second and third. Seal shouldered the heaviest weight, carrying 60kgs, with the winning horse 3.5kgs lighter.
Other KZN-breds who won on the day included the daughter of Opera King (bred by George Rowles), Sunningdale for Alesh Naidoo in the Ancestral Fore MR 78 Handicap over 2400m. Going off at 25/1, she held on strongly to win from Look After Me, carrying 60kgs.
King’s Temptress (by King Of Kings) ran a fourth in the Thekweni Stakes Gr 1 by 3 lengths over 1600m. She has now had 3 starts, won a Gr 2 and placed in two Group races.
KZN’s champion stallion Kahal had several Group placed horses on the day.
Lovestruck, owned by Alesh Naidoo (by Kahal) ran third in the Premier’s Champion Stakes with Spring Valley’s Heavenisaracehorse (by King Of Kings) holding on for fourth place – both beating the talented War Horse. Heavenisaracehorse sold at the KZN Yearling Sale 2011 for R130 000, and to date has had three starts – a win and 2 places.
Summerhill-bred Black Wing ran a close second in the Champions Stakes Gr 1, in a close finish shouldering a 1kg more than the winner.
Tales Of Bravery, another horse on the day by Kahal, ran fourth by two lengths, beating the likes of Chesalon and Castlethorpe.
Another Summerhill-bred by Kahal, the filly Checcetti, held on for a very close second to Happy Archer(AUS) in the Gr 2 Gold Bracelet. Ridden by Kevin Shea for trainer Mike de Kock, she carried 60kgs over the course distance of 2000m.
A R320 000 Ready-To-Run sale graduate, she has now won over R500 000 in stakes, for four wins and 13 places.
