A R25 000 graduate off the BSA 2017 National 2YO Sale, bred and consigned by Bruce Le Roux of Spring Valley Stud, Sweet Empress came bounding through to win a brave race from Varsfontein’s American Express with Anton Marcus aboard.

Craig Zackey rode a perfect race aboard the Curved Ball half-sister to Gr2 Drill Hall Stakes winner, Tales Of Bravery and Gr3 placed Secret Warning.

She is owned in partnership with Messrs Geoff Perkins, M A Christensen & Michael Sinnema. This is the second win for the filly but Wendy Whitehead commented that “the penny was only dropping now, and she is only learning now what racing is all about!”

Craig Zackey commented on his social media “I think she has a thing for me!” as he is the only jockey to have won on her, she isn’t the easiest and does have a bit of a temperament.

She has now won twice and placed twice from 9 starts and earned almost R150 000 in stakes – a tidy return on her sales price.

This is the exceptional family of Gypsy’s Warning, Romany Prince, Surabie and Queen Forever to name but a few.

Congratulations to all concerned and to breeder Bruce Le Roux.
