Seal Gets Gr 3 Victory; Listed Win For Broodmare Sire King Of Kings |
Seal grabbed his ninth victory in the Gr 3 Jubilee Handicap over 1800m at Turffontein from Heavy Metal, Maine Dane and Glorious Jet – amongst a strong field of horses by a quarter of a length, shouldering 61kgs under jockey Francois Herholdt. The Bush Hill born and raised Silvano gelding continues his good form and is no stranger to Group success, with the Gr 1 SA Derby, Wolf Power 1600 Listed, Gr 2 Gold Vase and Aquanaut Listed under his belt.
Bred by Dr Ian Heyns, Seal is owned by Afrilek Drives (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mr Grant Douglas) and trained by Gavin Van Zyl.
Seal also currently heads up the log for the KZN Breeders Series taking place on 30 June at Greyville with 51 points, where six races for KZN-breds of three years old and up will contest the races worth R200 000 each over distances of 1200, 1400m and 1900m – two each for colts and fillies – the 1900m of which more than likely Seal will be aimed at. There is also a seventh race for two year olds over 1200m.
Well done to all of Seal’s connections and we look forward to more from this talented five year old gelding!
King Of Kings had a victory at Turffontein as the Broodmare sire of Zambezi Torrent, a Highlands-bred trained by Mike Bass. Out of American mare Zooming Zellie, Zambezi Torrent was a R1,150 million yearling.
In just his fourth start and the first in KZN, Zambezi Torrent won the Gatecrasher Listed for two-year olds by two lengths from Exelero.
He also placed fourth in the Gr 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery to Yellow Star-bred Flash Drive, as well as placing second in his first two starts.
His half-brother is the two-time winner by Spectrum – Zestful. Zestful has placed in the Gr 2 Dingaans, as well as the Gr 3 Tony Ruffel Stakes. Well done to his winning owner Mr Liam Mulryan.
