Record-breaking 2012 KZN Yearling Sale Graduate A Winner |
Tiger Territory, a dark-bay colt that smashed the sales records at the 2012 KZN Yearling Sale has won broken his maiden in his just his third start, his second time at the Vaal racecourse by over two lengths over 1000m. The first horse to ever pass through a KZN Yearling Sale for over a R1 million, he finished second over the same course and distance earlier in May.
The two year old colt is bred by Highlands Farms, by Trippi out of Fragrant Filly by Model Man.
A three-quarter brother to Franny, this family includes Scented Royal, Philipa Johnson and Texan Summer (the latter standing at stud at Midlands Thoroughbreds). Tiger Territory sold to Leon Erasmus for R1.1 million on behalf of owner Mr I. Snyman.
The 2012 KZN Yearling Sale is proving to be a source of champion juvenile racehorses this season, already producing the likes of Gr 1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Happy Valentine, Gr 2 Umkhomazi winner Colour Of Courage (bred by Backworth Stud and the first Group winner for sire Judpot) and Gr 2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Virgo’s Babe (bred by Midlands Thoroughbreds), who famously passed through the same sales ring last year as unsold – she has earned almost R600 000 to date.
It has also produced Group performers Jimmi Choo (Hadlow Stud) and Ace Antonius – the first son of Antonius Pius to win in South Africa.
Keep an eye on the log for the inaugural KZN Yearling Sale Million race to be run on the last event of the Vodacom Durban July Race Day, open to just 16 of the graduates of the 2012 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale – and what an incredibly strong field the race looks to be!
The Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale takes place 4-5 July. The catalogue is available online at www.tba.co.za. 16 of this year’s draft of 291 horses will line-up for a chance to race for a R1-million on Vodacom Durban July day 2014. Make sure you tick the boxes to qualify!
