Rathmor’s Gypsy Queen Produces Kahal Colt
Rathmor’s Gypsy Queen Produces Kahal Colt |
KZN Breeders Broodmare Of The Year for 2011, Gypsy Queen, produced an outstanding Kahal(GB) colt on 11 October for Rathmor Stud. Mike McHardy describes the colt as: “a large plain bay, that is very athletic-looking.”
A half-brother to three-time Gr 1 winner in the USA and South Africa, Gypsy’s Warning (by Mogok), this is an exciting pedigree indeed with the ‘Coup de Folie’ connection between Mogok, a half-brother to Machiavellian – who in turn is the sire of Kahal.
Gypsy’s Warning, bred by Rathmor Stud , is now standing at stud at a division of Lane’s End farm in Kentucky, currently in foal to her first by Street Cry, himself by Machiavellian and a winner of the Gr 1 Dubai World Cup.
Street Cry(IRE) is the sire of 2010 American Horse Of The Year Zenyatta, as well as sires’ Street Sense, Street Boss and Street Hero.
Gypsy’s Warning changed hands last year at the Keeneland November Sale for $1,05 million, purchased by Flaxman Holdings, the breeders of her sire Mogok(USA). A R170 000 National Yearling Sales graduate, she also took home two Gr 3’s and placed in five Gr 1’s, two in the USA.
Gypsy Queen has a beautiful yearling filly, named Golden Earing, by Fort Wood – she has been entered for inspections towards the 2013 National Yearling Sale. Her full-sister Gypsy Madonna sold for R1 350 000 at the 2011 National Yearling Sale and is currently in training with Mike Bass.
The Kahal colt is also a half-brother to Gr 2 Camellia Stakes winner Surabi (by Wolfhound).
Gypsy Queen is currently in foal to Silvano(GER).
