KZN Results Of CTS Ready To Run Sale

The Cape Thoroughbred Sales Ready To Run Sale held yesterday at Inanda Club concluded last night, and its not surprising that Champion Freshman Sire for 2014/2015, Summerhill resident Visionaire topped the Sires list with an impressive average of R272 813 each, for 16 Lots sold.

 

Lot 172 topped the sale for sire Visionaire and the KZN-breds, selling to Rainbow Beach Trading for R625 000. The colt is out of Sucha Looka by Braashee, from the damline of Black Wing and Salutation.

 

Gr3 winning Royal Pleasure saw her impressive full-sister, sold as Lot 146 named Missibaba, go for R500 000 to Alesh Naidoo. The smart chestnut Visionaire filly out of King Of Kings mare Royal Purse, put up an impressive gallop at Summerhill a few weeks back.

 

Another Visionaire, Lot 195 sold to Nchaka Moloi, a half brother to SA’s all-time winning racehorse Hear The Drums who took victory 34 times including the East Cape Sprint Cup Listed. Knocked down for R300 000, the colt named Copper Pot is out of Gallic League mare Winning Glory.

 

One of the leading stallions on the National Sires Log currently, the late Kahal was recognised at the sale and his progeny sold well, averaging R233 333 for six Lots sold. This was headed up by a lovely bay colt from Nicola and Marc Coppez’s Balmoral Stud, out of War Echo by Complete Warrior. The dam War Echo is a half-sister to former Champion Broodmare Of The Year Stormsvlei, in turn the dam of Pocket Power and River Jetez. The colt sold for R350 000 to F Ebrahim, destined for the Tyrone Zaki yard.

Sire of Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes winner Rabada, Brave Tin Soldier had Lot 109 named Private Swarovski sell to Mayfair Speculators for R475 000, with Far End Pretraining acting as agent. The handsome colt, a half-brother to Pej, is the complete image of his purple blooded sire with a beautiful dished honest head and matching his sires confirmation and fine bay coat. Certainly one to watch for the future!

 

Golden Sword’s first progeny are two year olds, along with Curved Ball and Traffic Guard.

 

Traffic Guard opened the sale with a bang, Lot 1 going for R100 000 to Gary Alexander Racing Stables. Named Zeal And Zest, the colt is out of a Windrush mare Zodwa, a half-sister to Antonius Du Bois and Always Al.

 

With some of the prime Lots placed towards the end of the sale and a number of siblings to Group winners, a half-sister to the great Pierre Jourdan by Golden Sword sold to Form Bloodstock for R475 000.

 

The flashy Summerhill-bred filly named Belle Rose has her Kahal half-brother also making waves, with three year old colt Champagne Haze winning and placing twice from four starts for the Gary Alexander stable.

 

Others to attract attention were the siblings to Gr1 winner Rabada and Gr3 winner Flash Drive.

 

Summerhill consigned a handsome grey colt by A.P. Arrow as Lot 93 out of Jordie by Fard, a half-brother to Rabada. The colt had a super action and aptly named Glider Pilot sold to Adrian Van Vuuren for R475 000.

 

Clifton-bred son of Fort Wood out of La Sirenne by Captain Al (the dam of Flash Drive), Sirenne Fort sold to Brett Crawford for R450 000, consigned by Klawervlei Stud.

Others to stand out was a daughter of Curved Ball out of Cash Card who sold for R190 000 to Mario Ferriera, from Jane Thomas’ Far End Pretraining stable. Lot 38 named Tread Lightly is out of a National Emblem/Secret Prospector mare, from the damline of Fire Water and Captain Cook. Curved Ball’s sire Fastnet Rock made more international news over the weekend when his son, Fascinating Rock, took the Qipco Gr1 Champion Stakes at Ascot by 10/1.

 

Just As Well has had a great start to his stud career, with just 12 registered foals to run in his first year, five are winners with eight places between them, including Gr1 performers and Black Type horse Just As I Said. He sold two Lots for an average of R175 000 each, the top Lot being the last to the enter the ring for Balmoral Stud at R300 000 for Lucky Houdalakis.

 

Miesque’s Approval had a single filly on offer from Balmoral Stud named Portelinha Waltz, also sold to Lucky for R260 000. She is beautifully bred out of a Sharmadal mare Sabrine’s Choice, from the damline of Devil In Disguise and sire Choisir.

 

Jane Thomas’ Hard Spun colt out of Gr1 winning grey Kahal mare Noble Heir, sold for R400 000. The first foal born in Australia for his dam, the colt was pinhooked for the Ready To Run sale sold to Mayfair Speculators.

 

Great news associated with Rathmor Stud, their broodmare acquisition of Australian-bred African Love(aus) looks an exciting one after her Captain Al colt sold for R1,4million as Lot 4 to Johan Janse Van Vuuren, he is a first foal. African Love is due to foal to Rathmor Stud’s Noble Tune this season. The mare by Fantastic Light out of a Gone West mare is a half-sister to Kuroshio and Believe ‘N Succeed, the dam of Champion New Zealand Sprinter Bounding.

 

The sale concluded with an aggregate of R36 065 000, averaging R225 406 each with the median being R110 000.
