KZN Breeders Awards Nominees For 2015

The KZN Breeders Awards take place on 7 November at the beautiful Bellwood Stud.

The criteria for the KZN Breeders Awards is based on horses born in KZN (it also includes horses registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme who are born in and out of KZN) who have achieved Black Type in the past racing season from 1 August 2014 – 1 August 2015. A decision was made to take into account the statistics from the Gold Cup meeting that took place on 1 August 2015, a racemeeting that was postponed due to excessively wet weather.

Visionaire, last season’s Champion Freshman Sire, dominates the Two Year Old fillies category with Lala and Royal Pleasure, and Brave Tin Soldier featured with unbeaten Gr1 winner Rabada and Rosalie nominated for Two Year Old Colt and Outstanding Three Year Old Filly respectively. Champion Breeders’Summerhill Stud have born and raised 10 of the nominees, including Albert Rapp’s Lala and Team Valor’s Royal Pleasure.

Outstanding Older Male is once again a strong category, with the likes of Equus Horse Of The Year Futura nominated, brilliant sprinter-milers Bezanova and No Worries, whilst Miesque’s Approval’s Gr2 winning son Judicial gets a nomination and the late Gr1 Gold Cup winner Wild One, the latter voted Champion Stayer at both the Equus Awards and KZN Racing Awards.

KZN’s Champion Sire Kahal is represented by four horses, Miesque’s Approval with two Gr2 winners in Judicial and J’s Outsider, whilst Spring Valley’s Just As Well – who only had 12 registered foals in his first season at stud is represented by Spring Valley Stud’s Just As I Said.

Scott Bros’ Mogok is represented by Wild One and Aldora Stud’s nominee Mogok Master. Just three stallions based outside of KZN feature in the Awards, with Futura by Dynasty, Anton and Judy Procter’s Patchit Up Baby, by Ideal World and Clifton Stud’s Whatalady by Jet Master.
