KZN-Bred Futura Seventh In Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings
KZN-Bred Futura Seventh In Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings |
Futura is lying seventh on the coveted Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings as of 8 March 2015.
The four year old triple Gr1-winning Futura out of a Badger’s Drift mare, Scribblin The Cat, enjoyed a well-deserved rest after his easy victory in the J&B Met, which saw him annihilate the field by over two lengths.
He has returned to trainer Brett Crawford for the exciting Champions Season coming up and currently resides at Gold Circle’s impressive Summerveld Training Centre for the racing season.
All eyes will be on Futura for the upcoming Gr1 Vodacom Durban July, a race which saw him show an excellent turn of foot to come from behind and finish just half a length off the controversial race winner, Legislate. Futura went on to win the Gr1 Champions Cup, and later the Queens Plate from KZN Yearling Sale graduate Louis The King followed by his big Gr1 J&B Met win.
It isn’t the first time KZN has featured in the Longines World Rankings, with Variety Club, out of a KZN-bred mare La Massine flying the flag previously.
Born and raised in the lush green spacious paddocks of Yellow Star Stud for breeder Guy Murdoch, Futura has had seven wins and four places – never out of the money. He placed a very close second in the Gr3 Cup Trial, and finished third to Legislate once more in the Gr2 Green Point Stakes.
A handsome son of Dynasty – Futura just gets better and better and it is rewarding to see his name amongst the likes of Shared Belief, California Chrome and Lankan Rupee, to name but a few.
His broodmare sire standing at Wood-Moore Manor Stud, Badger’s Drift, holds strong Gr1 status – the accolade of being a three-time Gr1 winner himself, the sire of Gr1 winner Ivory Trail and now the broodmare sire of a Gr1 winner.
Yellow Star Stud has been the birth place of many a Champion, including St John Gray’s five-time Gr1 winning Dancewiththedevil, currently in foal to Silvano and standing at Cathy and Jonathan Martin’s Hadlow Stud for breeder/owner/trainer St John Gray.
Congratulations to Futura’s connections on a great achievement – owners John Freeman, Ian Longmore and Jack Mitchell, trainer Brett Crawford and breeder Guy Murdoch.
