Former 2000 Guineas winner, King of Kings, is enjoying a purple patch with his juveniles this season. The son of Sadler’s Wells is currently atop of the South African Two Year Old Sires list, with his juvenile runners having earned over R450 000 this year alone. Var, Captain Al and Antonius Pius follow suit.
King Of Kings, who resides at Jenny and Peter Blyth’s Clifton Stud, is also achieving a runners to winners percentage of 23%, 6% percent more than Var.
King of Kings’ 2 year old daughter Belvedere Palace made a winning debut on Sunday, to stamp herself as a horse to watch in the future. Other King Of Kings babies to impress include the stakes placed King’s Soldier and the very talented King’s Bay – a winner of three of his four starts to date, including the Sentinel Stakes.
Also responsible for this season’s top-class filly King’s Temptress, King Of Kings has two lots on sale at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
Lot 82 is a colt named Kingdom Ice being offered by Somerset Stud, whose dam is a four-time winning half-sister to G2 winner Cup Of Grace. This is the family of leading sire Jallad, and champions Petrava, Hoeberg and Princess Victoria.
Lot 514 is an own-sister to two useful winners, Reign As Kings and Reign Victorious. Her dam and second dam were both stakes winners, and she is the only King Of Kings filly on sale being offered by Bush Hill Stud.
Additional recent International news in is that King Of Kings is also achieving as a Broodmare Sire. His maternal grandson named Havana Rey won the Gr 2 Ajax Stakes in Australia on Friday on turf in good going, by a length over 1500m. The winning bay gelding is by King Cugat.
King Of Kings’ other grand-daughter named Channel Lady won the Gr 3 Suwannee River Handicap in the USA at Gulfstream Park on Turf by three-quarters of a length earlier in February.
