Kildonan Gets First Winner
Kildonan Gets First Winner |
A sensationally fast racehorse who is now passing it onto his progeny, Kildonan’s two year old son Tribute To Kylie won his fourth start at Clairwood in impressive fashion by three-quarters of a length in very soft going over 1000m. From just five runners to date, Kildonan has already had a winner and six places.
Yet to be out of the money, the grandson of Pivotal has been knocking on the door for a win after placing second in his first three starts – two them but a nose and a head. Bred by Maine Chance Farms and trained by Adam Marcus, he defeated Golden Matador, Sheik’s Braashee and Gary The Great (a colt by Atso who was having his debut run).
Owned by Wilgebosdrift and standing at Yellow Star Stud, Kildonan has got off to a head-turning start with Yellow Star Stud’s own home-bred Fire The Rocket (previously known as Rigtersveld) running a close second at Clairwood in March by a quarter of a length in his only start to date – over 1000m from Viva Le Var. He beat Aurum Pot (Judpot) and Spring Cherry (Trippi) into third and fourth position at even weights. He is trained by Doug Campbell who holds the colt in high regard, and owned by Messrs A Sukhraj, S Sukhraj & Douglas Campbell. Fire The Rocket is out of National Assembly mare National Feature.
Another two year old gelding looking for a win is Lesley Strong, who has placed twice at Turffontein from just three starts. Owned by Mr & Mrs A J Macdonald, bred by Moutenshoek and trained by Wallace Tolmay, Lesley Strong placed over 1400m.
Both Tribute To Kylie and Fire The Rocket were each R100 000 yearlings, from the 2012 KZN Yearling Sale and 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale respectively.
Goody Two Shoes, bred by Higlands Farm sold at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale for R180 000 as Lot 326 out of Capitol Steps by National Assembly.
Kildonan, by Rich Man’s Gold out of Cathay Firth by Philipi, is a very exciting addition to the KZN sires ranks – a beautifully athletic and balanced stallion with a deep girth, handsome head, kind disposition and a hindquarter that shows his record-breaking win in the Gr 1 Golden Horse Sprint (a record that still stands and couldn’t be bettered by JJ The Jetplane), Yellow Star Stud have the big grey dam of E-Jet from Wilgebosdrift Stud, Esmaltina(ARG), lined up for Kildonan this coming season.
